Your First Poem: A Small Exercise

Choose an ordinary object near you. Write what it looks like, what it sounds like when handled, and one memory it brings back. Break the sentences where you want a reader to pause. Remove the sentence that explains what the poem means. What remains may be the beginning of a poem.
