The Watchtower of Witness

By Randy Salars

Where nothing must be hidden

There is a kind of exhaustion that comes from hiding. From curating what you show. From editing yourself before you speak. The Watchtower of Witness is the realm where this exhaustion finds its antidote. Here you are seen โ€” not as you perform, but as you are.

This is not surveillance. It is not the scrutiny of judgment or the exposure of shame. The Watchtower offers something different: a gaze that does not flinch. A presence that sees everything โ€” the light and the shadow, the noble and the broken โ€” and does not turn away. To be witnessed here is to be held in truth without being crushed by it.

What This Realm Represents

The Watchtower represents the sacred reality that you are already known. That the hiding you do from others โ€” and from yourself โ€” does not fool the deeper layers of existence. This could be terrifying. But in the Watchtower, it becomes something else: relief.

If you are already seen, you do not have to maintain the exhausting work of concealment. You can set down the mask. You can let the truth be present. Not because you are being interrogated, but because truth is simply what lives here. It is the air. You do not confess it; you breathe it.

When You Might Find Yourself Here

You arrive at the Watchtower when you are tired of hiding. When the performance has become unbearable. When you sense that something in you wants to be known โ€” not judged, not fixed, just known. This is not weakness; it is courage. The willingness to be seen fully is one of the bravest acts available to a human being.

You may also find yourself here during prayer or confession. During moments when the inner life suddenly becomes transparent. During the rare intimacies where you are met without condition. The Watchtower is wherever truth is finally allowed to stand without apology.

What This Place Offers

The Watchtower offers freedom from pretense. When you no longer need to hide, you can finally rest in what is true. This does not mean every truth is pleasant โ€” but it does mean you no longer carry the weight of maintaining illusion. The energy that went into hiding can now go into healing.

It also offers the peculiar comfort of being seen by something greater than yourself. You are not alone in your truth. Something witnesses it. Something holds it. And that holding does not collapse under the weight.

How to Recognize You Have Arrived

You will know you are in the Watchtower when you feel the urge to stop hiding โ€” and the fear that comes with it. When you sense a presence that sees more than you have shown, yet does not recoil. When the question shifts from "What do I want them to see?" to "What is actually true?"

Sometimes the arrival is marked by tears of relief. Sometimes by the quiet thought: I do not have to pretend here. The Watchtower does not demand confession. It simply makes space for truth to exist without defense.

A Gentle Invitation

You are already seen. You do not need to prepare a version of yourself to bring here. You do not need to clean up before arriving. The Watchtower sees what is โ€” and holds it all. Nothing is too much. Nothing is too shameful. You are seen, and you are still here.
