Labeling Your Stack for Non-Stackers (The Sticky Note System)
To your wife, an Eagle and a generic round look identical. If you don't label them, she will sell them for the same price.
You know that a 1996 Silver Eagle is worth $60, and a 2023 Eagle is worth $35. Your heirs do not. To them, they are both just "shiny coins."
The "Idiot-Proof" System
Do not rely on them looking it up. Label everything. Use a label maker or masking tape + Sharpie.
What to Write on the Tube
- Item Name: "American Silver Eagles"
- Date: "2023"
- Estimated Value (Date): "Approx $600/tube (as of 2024)"
Minimum Sell Price
This is the most important number. Write on the box: "DO NOT SELL BELOW SPOT PRICE." Even better: "DO NOT SELL BELOW $XX per ounce." Give them a floor price so they know if they are being ripped off.
