Doug Watt: Get ‘Edjicated’ and Save Yourself Some Money

A university, or a college education is expensive. There is nothing wrong with a “good” liberal arts education. I’m not talking about a philosophy department that features Angela Davis, or the latest new shiny platitudes. As Lord Acton said: “Nothing is more irritating than the discovery of the pedigree of ideas.” If you are interested in the pedigree of ideas, I recommend the Rev. F.C. Copleston’... Source

British cardiologist Dr. Aseem Malhotra (Video screenshot) A top London cardiologist who was one of the first to take the COVID-19 vaccine and promote it on British television now is calling for a suspension of the shots, arguing in a scientific paper that there is evidence the risk of harm is greater than any benefit. Who Decides What Children Read? Authoritarians Slander Parent Groups as ‘Book Banners’

  • Post author:

In a country that protects and praises personal liberty, few charges are more loaded than to call people censors or “book banners.” Those are fighting words. Unfortunately, the American Library Association and PEN America, an advocacy group for literary authors, are casually hurling that accusation against school leaders and parent organizations across the country without any concern for whether the charges are reasonable or factually accurate. The library association and PEN think they can slander others as “book banners” to bully them into acquiescing to their organizations’ preferences, rather than engaging in democratic debate or policy discussions about what books…

Borrower Sues to Stop Biden’s Unfair, Illegal Student Loan Bailout

Probably the most common legal argument against the Biden administration’s student loan bailout plan is that the federal Department of Education simply doesn’t have the authority to accomplish it. That’s a core argument in a new lawsuit filed by the Pacific Legal Foundation on behalf of an employee whose student debt is affected by the bailout plan. Putting aside the issues of unfairness, the legal arguments have always been persuasive. The challenge has been to find a plaintiff who will suffer a legally recognized injury necessary to get into court. The Pacific Legal Foundation has found a whole group of…

The First Lawsuit Challenging Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Plan

Earlier today, Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF) public interest lawyer Frank Garrison filed the first meaningful lawsuit challenging President Biden's loan forgiveness plan, which the Congressional Budget Office estimates would cost some $400 billion. PLF, a libertarian-leaning public interest firm that is also my wife's employer, is representing Garrison. The Biden Administration Office of Legal Counsel argues that the loan forgiveness plan is authorized by a provision of the 2003 HEROES Act, which gives the Secretary of Education the power to "waive or modify" federally funded student debt obligations of borrowers whose ability to pay off the debt has been undermined…

Biden’s Student Loan Debt Forgiveness Plan Now Estimated To Cost $400 Billion

President Joe Biden's sweeping student loan forgiveness plan will wipe all the budget savings created by the Inflation Reduction Act—and then some. In a letter published on Monday, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), a nonpartisan federal agency, estimated that Biden's student loan debt forgiveness plan will increase the cost of student loans by $400 billion. That's more than the White House originally projected, and it means that the fiscally imprudent debt relief effort will end up swamping the modest budgetary savings achieved by last month's passage of the Inflation Reduction Act by more than $150 billion. The letter notes that this…
