About Old School Brand
David Hinson (1955-2010) started Old School Mill, Inc. in the early 1990’s with an interest in foods, “prepared in the ways passed down from the old school.” This quest for authenticity in producing the foods led David to construct a molasses mill later with the notion that the molasses had been produced exactly as it would have been produced by his ancestors.
David’s interest in antique foods led him to purchase and make operational an antique grist mill. Drawing on the expertise of old-time millers, David learned the fine art of stone grinding grains into wonderfully pure meals, flours, and grits. Since those first products were made Old School Brand has developed a line of foods and mixes that bring back all the rich goodness and flavor of centuries ago.
Today, David’s wife Robin and son Parker, along with valued friends, continue to operate the business with utmost care and the attention to the detail that David insisted upon. The Old School Brand goal is that you find these products unique and made to the highest quality.
The Mill – Where The Products Come To Life
Old School Mill takes authentic antique ingredients and in a combination of mixing and grinding, turns them into the product(s) you enjoy. The mill was built years ago by David Hinson, using machinery from a 1954 Meadows Mills Meal Monster. Today, his son, Parker continues grinding and milling the products you know as Old School Brand products. The lead feature of the mill is the way products are ground: on two 450 pound millstones. That’s right, two 450 pound millstones!
Old School Brand corn meal is processed in a Gluten-Free facility and is, in fact Gluten Free!
The Old School Team
The Force: Parker Hinson
Parker Hinson is the force behind most of what goes on at Old School — sales, product development, the miller, and much more. Parker grew up as the miller’s son and now has taken on the role as miller himself, and by choice, no less, not by force!
A Family Affair: Robin Hinson
Since inception, Robin Hinson has been involved in building Old School Brand. Years ago, as Dave’s wife and now as Parker’s mom, Robin helps drive Old School with her knowledge and extensive background in operations. She works closely with Parker in most aspects of the business daily.
Like Family: Sherrie Mauldin
For 20 years, Sherrie Mauldin has been integral in the daily Old School Mill operations. Her expertise in shipping, along with her knowledge of the business, makes her part of the Old School “Family.” Today, Sherrie hand packs each Old School Brand product to make sure all products are received in the highest quality!

Old School Brand Corn Meal
Old School Mill uses poly bags to keep your Corn Meal safe during shipping and handling. Upon grinding, poly bags are filled and sealed before being dropped into official Old School Brand paper bags for safe keeping. Using only select North Carolina non-genetically modified white corn, Old School corn meal is 100% stone ground, then sifted to perfection, leaving all of the rich corn flour intact.
Metal Tie Closing
After placing the poly bags inside the paper bag, Old School Mill uses an antique metal tying machine to enclose your corn meal in preparation for shipping. This machine protects the contents so your corn meal will arrive to your doorstep safely, with no spillage! The metal tie is looped around the top of the bag to keep the contents fresh and enclosed. The metal tie closing offers tamper resistance to the product.
