Teachers’ Union Uses Massive Shareholding to Force Facebook to Censor Speech

Public school teachers, generally speaking, are terrible. There’s an obvious exception for the few that aren’t, but this is a good general rule. They have failed students and really couldn’t care any less about it. But they’ve recently expanded, deciding that it isn’t enough to ensure students grow up stupid, they want everyone to be uninformed.

Red State reports that in a letter dated May 4, 2022, to trustees of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the union president Randi Weingarten suggests a proposal to force new oversight of Meta’s (Facebook) fact-checking, proposing an “independent law firm” which would evaluate Meta’s ability to police what Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen called “divisive and extreme messages.”

As it turns out, the AFT maintains $6.3B worth of Meta stock holdings and isn’t afraid to toss around that weight to censor opinions they don’t like.
