The grand jury indicted one of the three officers involved in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor but not for her murder. The former detective, Brett Hankison, was charged with reckless endangerment of Breonna Taylor’s neighbors. People are outraged saying this is not the justice Breonna Taylor deserves. Brett Hankison was indicted on Wednesday for three counts of first-degree “wanton endangerment.” In Kentucky, wanton endangerment is a felony charge that could mean up to five years in prison. The other two officers involved in the shooting were not indicted. The Anger I just realized that if every single bullet fired by the Louisville police department had hit Breonna Taylor, they would be facing zero charges. — I Smoked Trump's Coup (@Dknight10k) September 24, 2020 The police that murdered Breonna Taylor in her own home are getting off scot-free. I continue to be repulsed by our “justice” system that does nothing to stop mass shooters like the one at my high school yet murders our fellow Americans simply for existing as Black people. — David Hogg (@davidhogg111) September 24, 2020 Breonna Taylor’s life matters. Well, according to the state law of Kentucky wanton endangerment in the first degree is considered a Class D felony. In Kentucky, people who are convicted of Class D felonies face up to 5 years in prison. Kentucky law states, “A person is guilty of wanton endangerment in the first degree when, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to value of human life, he wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to another person.” The charges that Hankison is facing actually has absolutely nothing to do with Breonna Taylor. Judge Annie O’Connell read the charges stating the officer, “wantonly shot a gun,” into a neighbor’s apartment. Daniel Cameron, Kentucky Attorney General, explained that there wasn’t enough convincing evidence to link Hankison’s shots to the ones that killed Breonna Taylor. Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired at the officers which according to the attorney general, justifies the return of fire. Breonna Taylor Breonna Taylor was 26-years-old when she was killed. She was a ER technician with so many exciting plans for her future. On March 13th, in her apartment in Louisville, Breonna Taylor was shot six times and bled out on the floor. The Kentucky Police had a ‘no-knock’ search warrant for Breonna Taylor’s apartment. Her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, said he did not know it was police and opened fire. There was a total of 32 shots fired by the police that night. Attorney General Cameron explained the F.B.I. laboratory concluded that the shot that was fatal was fired by Detective Cosgrove. However, a lab in Kentucky could not determine exactly who fired the fatal shot. Sam Aguiar, a lawyer representing Taylor’s family, blames the police department’s failure. Aguiar stated, “ Breonna Taylor gets shot in her own home, with her boyfriend doing what’s as American as apple pie, in the defending himself and his woman.” Cameron stated the investigation confirmed police had knocked and announced their presence properly before entering Taylor’s apartment. Walker and neighbors in interviews have said that they did not hear the police announce themselves. President Trump commented on the matter stating, “I think it’s a sad thing, and I give my regards to the family,” Trump said. “I also think it’s so sad what’s happening with everything about that case, including law enforcement. So many people suffering.” The Aftermath Breonna Taylor has become an icon for the racial injustice that the black community faces. Her name along with other victims like George Floyd and Jacob Blake have been the center of the Black Lives Matter protests. It took several months for Breonna Taylor to get justice. Breonna Taylor’s family received a of 12 million dollars along with changes to prevent future deaths by officers. The agreement was annouced about the settlement of the wrongful-death lawsuit on September 15th. Breonna’s law was created to stop the use of “no-knock” search warrants. The law states, “a Federal law enforcement officer 9 (as defined in section 115 of title 18, United States Code) 10 may not execute a warrant until after the officer provides 11 notice of his or her authority and purpose.” The indictment that Hankison received is not justice for Breonna Taylor. Many people have continued to protest and say her name to get her the justice she derives. She was murdered in her own home and the officer was charged for the bullets he missed. People are heartbroken to see this happen. They are tired and disappointed with the system that is broken. Many questioning if the officer wasn’t guilty of killing Breonna then why did her family receive a settlement for 12 million dollars in the wrongful-death lawsuit. How much is a life worth that this injustice is happening? Taylor’s family and legal team wanted harsher charges. Activists are calling for real justice to be served. An attorney that represents Taylor’s family, Ben Crump, hoped to at least have the officer charged with manslaughter in the second degree. Breonna Taylor deserves better than this. Activists, friends, and family demand justice. Many people have taken to social media to tell America, “We need to do better.”
Many people believed that the trending phrase “she’s 12” on Twitter yesterday had to do with our country’s president. It speaks loudly about the state of our politics that I saw “She’s 12” trending and immediately thought that the President had done something disgusting — Santiago Mayer (@santiagomayer_) September 22, 2020 Luckily it had nothing to do with politics. Here’s what really inspired the trend. It all started when a father, Jason Ernst, presented Twitter with an interesting dilemma. His daughter Klaire, who is 12, hates her name and wants to have it legally changed to “Ace.” Ernst told Twitter that he wasn’t a huge fan of the name Ace, and suggested to his daughter that it be a nickname. Klaire was not okay with that compromise. And thus, Ernst turned to Twitter to seek out parenting advice. My daughter’s name is Klaire, she’s 12. She hates her first name and wants it to be “Ace”. She wants it legally changed. Both her mother and I are against that. I hate it. I said it’d be ok as a nickname but she’s not okay with that. What do I do? — Jason Ernst (@Geranthrimin) September 21, 2020 Ernst began getting flooded with replies, everyone trying to weigh in with their own parenting tips. Many advised to wait until the daughter is 18 so that she can legally do it on her own, and in the meantime support her by calling her Ace. Tell her when she's 18 she can change it legally and you'll help her. In the meantime, call her Ace. In 6 years my guess is there will be other more pressing priorities that occupy her stratosphere. Aren't teenagers fun? — Vicki Hendrix (@VicxHendrix) September 23, 2020 Hi there, we don’t know each other & I do not know where Ace is in the journey but if I could offer one piece of advice, listen to Ace. If Claire feels happier as Ace, then you should trust in her choice. You can offer guidance or find a counselor but please don’t suppress Ace — BAM Ariana Michaels (@ArianaDMichaels) September 22, 2020 Those who thought Ernst should call his daughter “Ace,” agreed that it was an act of support. One Twitter user went so far to point out that if Ernst belittles or makes fun of the “nickname,” it could be interpreted as him not liking who she wants to be. "It's your right to decide who you are. Let's call you Ace, and then if you want to make that legal when you turn 18, we'll foot the bill." (Also knock it off with the whiney tweets about how the name is "dumb" because what she'll hear is that you don't like who she wants to be.) — Racheline Maltese (@racheline_m) September 22, 2020 Some people did advise him to flat out tell his daughter no. Their viewpoints being that the role of a father is to “parent” and put your foot down sometimes, especially because the daughter is still so young. Say no. Being a parent is not a popularity contest. She can change it when she’s an adult. — Fix 👏the👏System 🇺🇸🇺🇸🌈❄️ (@IrishLass2157) September 22, 2020 Say no, because you're an adult, and thus should understand it's not about the name. Figure out if it's just an age-appropriate whim, or a larger self-image problem you can help her get past. Either way, the answer is no. — David Steinberg (@realDSteinberg) September 22, 2020 Others were alarmed that the daughter being 12 mattered at all. Most agreed that children have their own reasoning behind their decisions, just like adults, and should be respected, regardless of age. for everyone saying she’s 12: yeah, she is. in a year or two she’ll be in HIGHSCHOOL. you need to start letting her make her own decisions. you should ask her WHY she truly wants to change it, and you should be fully supportive of everything she chooses to do. — ArtbyInis⁷ 🎨🇦🇱 (@ArtbyInis) September 22, 2020 Some commented speaking from their own experience, either from the parent or child perspective. A grown mother and daughter pair separately replied to the Twitter thread. The daughter, Amy, wanted to change her name but her parents wouldn’t let her and she was ultimately grateful for their decision. I'm Amy's mother. When she wanted her name changed, she wouldn't let up & kept putting pressure on her dad & I. We stood our ground, but she didn't make it easy on us emotionally. Try to stand your ground in a loving way, as you know by Amy's comment she's grateful she listened. — Lana B. (@LanaLadybluept) September 23, 2020 Amy’s mom, Lana, agreed that she thought their decision was right, but did include that Amy had given her and her husband a really hard time for it. Luckily there was no resentment between this pair over the name issue. This brings us to the next point of contention presented in this thread. Many parents said Ernst was risking resentment from his daughter for the rest of her life if he doesn’t respect her wishes now. allow your kid to express herself. restricting her from doing that will most likely end up damaging your relationship with her. she's 12 and she's starting to become more aware of the world around her and she's learning how to express herself within the society we live in today 1 — eschopi (@eschopi_) September 22, 2020 Hey, here's something to consider: she's trusting you by sharing this request, instead of just having her friends call her "Ace" and cutting you out of knowing who she really is. Respect this trust, or later on you'll know even less about her inner life. — Cliff Jerrison (@pervocracy) September 22, 2020 That’s a big burden for a parent. Clearly the name issue can potentially have some deeper-seeded reasoning that parents may not necessarily be privy to or aware of. Ernst later did give us more backstory on his daughter, to help shed light on why he was hesitant to let her change her name in the first place. But this also highlights some of the potential processing his daughter is doing. She’s identifying as pan sexual. She went through lesbian & bi already. — Jason Ernst (@Geranthrimin) September 21, 2020 Ernst’s hesitancy based on his daughter’s rapid decision changing when it comes to her sexual identity, a struggle many face as they enter their teenage years, was not met by much understanding or support by the Twitter community. In fact, it sparked its own thread on the legitimacy of a teenager’s thought process. How is this argument. The human brain does not fully develop until the age of 24. This young person may not have even started her period, so she still has many years of discovery ahead of her. Hormonal changes are powerful determinants of how we feel and think. — Cristina NoSoyTíteredeNadie (@cristinaydarwin) September 23, 2020 Simple. She’s a human, and they should at least respect her new name, even if they don’t get it legally changed. End of story!! — PQ actually cares about you ✨ (@NerdyBirdyChic) September 23, 2020 Ultimately, most people thought this was an easy problem to avoid. The easy solution that most people agree on is to call the daughter by the name she wants to be called and move on. You can dig your heels in, make it a big issue & absolutely cement her in the idea that her given name is wrong. Or you can call her Ace, make her comfortable and happy, and give her space to figure things out. She may stay Ace she may not, but you'll still have a relationship. — Audrey IS ANGRY AND VOTING 🤬 (@HedwigGraymalk) September 23, 2020 This seemingly unimportant tweet became such a controversial topic for parents and children alike, propelling “she’s 12” to become trending on Twitter. It sparked discussions ranging from the legitimacy of a “child’s” reasoning, the autonomy of children and teenagers, and to ultimately what the role of a parent should look like. It’s funny to think that people who only saw the phrase “she’s 12” trending thought it had to do with politics #yikes. Thankfully there was a deep conversation being had instead. It really is sad, and scary , when you wake up too “she’s 12” trending and your actually relieved it is not about or connected to your nation’s leader. — Le_Roost (@le_roost) September 22, 2020 Parenting has never been an easy job, but luckily (for better or for worse) we now have the internet to crowdsource! What would you do if you were in this situation? Tell your child they can’t change their name, go along with the nickname and re-address the issue when they turn 18, or just go ahead and let them legally change their name?
Ellen DeGeneres kicked off the season premiere of her show with a much-anticipated apology. However, it didn’t quite go as planned. Shortly after posting the video, the backlash came flooding in. It appears as though people didn’t appreciate the jokes in her apology. Today we’re starting a new chapter. pic.twitter.com/PvpZXnXLv5 — Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) September 21, 2020 The talk show host posted a tweet of the monologue on Monday saying, “Today we’re starting a new chapter.” While Ellen’s intentions of the tweet might’ve been good, the current and former employees didn’t exactly see it that way. In the monologue, she comes across very light-hearted and made several jokes during the apology. DeGeneres starts off by asking the audience how their summer was and sarcastically responds by stating, “Mine was great. Super terrific.” Apologizing for the allegations she says, “As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation. I learned things that happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously and I want to say that I am so sorry to the people that were affected. I know that I am in a position of privilege and power and with that comes responsibility and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.” Several people questioned just how serious Ellen takes the allegations after making her apology more of a joking matter than anything else. A joke that didn’t sit well for people, in particular, was about how she is recognized as the ‘be-kind lady’. She explains, “Being known as the be-kind lady is a tricky position to be in. So let me give you some advice out there. If anybody’s thinking of changing their title or giving yourself a nickname, do not go with the be-kind lady. Don’t do it.” DeGeneres explains, “The truth is, I am that person you see on TV. I am also a lot of other things. Sometimes I get sad. I get mad. I get anxious. I get frustrated. I get impatient. And I am working on all that. I am a work in progress. And I am especially working on the impatience thing. And it’s not going well because it’s not happening fast enough. I will tell you that.” Twitter users were unsure whether they felt her apology was sincere. Yall buying it?🤨🤨 https://t.co/uib7lKa3Ew — Zach (@zachcamacho1) September 21, 2020 Don't buy it at all. She delivered the scripted apology that I imagined she would. Cancel — Soos Ramirez (@SoosRamirez5) September 22, 2020 Way to dodge the blame even while “taking responsibility” it wasn’t that “things happened on your show” it was that YOU were mean and nasty to people. I feel so bad for her. None of us are ever perfect & we all make poor & awful decisions but we shouldn't completely assassinate someone else's good character & write them off completely. — ~lauz (@paris_rivierra) September 21, 2020 These fans defended Ellen by clapping back at negative comments. How about you just admit that she was human like the restof us and sometimes we get a distorted view about something we didn’t see ourselves or even see ourselves given the ever present biases we have.. stop pretending your prefect.. — Clyde (@LurkerClyde) September 21, 2020 U mean she had bad days and was being a boss and got on to her workers for not doing there job…Didn’t know u were perfect because u must be if I are judging her — Misty Ryan (@shihtzumom1101) September 21, 2020 While this fan, is just excited to see what Ellen has in store for her new season. You are such a strong person love you, glade for season 18 — Bonnie Lopez (@Bontheboop) September 22, 2020 Back in July, employees and people on the show shared their experience with The Ellen Show. After many people accused the show of having a hostile work environment, people on social media wanted to boycott the show and ‘cancel’ Ellen. Cancel culture has become very popular and Ellen DeGeneres was just another celebrity to be added to the list of being ‘canceled’. The Toxic Work Environment BuzzFeedNews interviewed some of the show’s former employees and one current employee. All of the employees noted microaggressions in the workplace as well as an overall not pleasant environment. Fingers were pointed to DeGeneres’ executive producers, Andy Lassner, Ed Galvin, Mary Connelly, for most of the toxic environment but employees believe that Ellen should take responsibility for what happens on her show. “Some of the producers talk openly in public about addiction and mental health awareness, but they’re the reason there is a stigma. They definitely don’t practice what they preach with the ‘be kind’ mantra.” one employee told BuzzFeed News. The employee took one-month medical leave for a suicide attempt but when the employee returned they were told that their position had been removed. Another worker was in a car accident and had two family funerals in one year. If that isn’t hard enough they had difficulties taking time off from work with HR. After that, the former employee was fired. They had medical records and five former employees back up their story. The former worker stating that’s what they think a toxic work environment is, “That’s the definition of a toxic work environment, where they make you feel like you’re going insane and then you’re like, no, everything I was feeling was right. It was all leading up to this.” Many employees reported that you receive the most issues when you recognize that the work environment they create is hostile. “‘Be kind to the world. Just not your employees,” one employee commented. The Employee’s Response Former employees didn’t appreciate the apology DeGeneres gave after seemingly making light of a bad situation. “Not only did Ellen turn my trauma, our traumas, into a joke, she somehow made this one about her,” a former employee told BuzzFeedNews. This former employee was offended by her apology right from the beginning. “When she said, ‘Oh, my summer was great’ and that was supposed to be funny I thought, ‘It’s funny that you had a rough summer because everyone was calling out all the allegations of your toxic work environment and now you’re the one suffering?” Ed Galvin and Kevin Leman, executive producers, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman were fired in August after another investigation from a third-party. The allegations go beyond the toxic work environment. There are also allegations of sexual harassment, misconduct, intimidation, and racism. In her apology, Ellen explains since the show has started they made the changes they need to with the show. “We have had a lot of conversations over the last few weeks about the show, the workplace environment, and what we want for the future. We have made the necessary changes and today we are starting a new chapter.” Do you agree with the overall response to monologue? Was it inappropriate for Ellen to make jokes in her apology? Was it enough to earn back the trust of her employees and fans?
Over an Instagram story on September 17th, the model and foodie, Chrissy Teigen, accidentally revealed her baby’s gender while talking about her pregnancy. Teigen was updating her fans about the size and health of her baby, and slipped in the pronoun ‘he’ when referring to the baby. The 34 year-old quickly covered her mouth realizing what she had said and just followed with “oops.” After the story, she called herself stupid, and wrapped up the conversation. It did not seem to be that big of a deal to her as she continued to post the story, and later posted it on her wall to share the news with the rest of her fans. The baby boy will be the third child for Chrissy Teigen and her husband John Legend, so perhaps they were not planning a large gender reveal anyway. Watch the adorable and small slip up here: How ‘Chrissy’ Of Her Twitter users were quick to congratulate the model and her husband, and make fun of her gender reveal. Teigen is known for being hilarious, outspoken, unfiltered, and all together ‘TMI.’ Her quirky personality always has fans laughing, and guessing what her next slip up will be; like the time she accidentally flashed everyone at an awards ceremony back in 2016 when her high slit dress was slit a little too high. Or in 2019, when she publicly posted her email address without realizing it and got non stop FaceTime calls from strangers. Many twitter users laughed at the idea of her sharing the sensitive information in such a cause was just “so Chrissy Teigen” of her, and the least surprising thing she could do. This is the most @chrissyteigen pregnancy reveal ever. This, of course, is alluding to the California Wildfires that were caused by a gender reveal in Southern California earlier this September. The wildfires burned down over 7,000 acres in San Bernardino county. Twitter users wanted to make Teigen an example of what an unproblematic reveal could look like. Maybe she mentioned the pronoun, but she displace anyone or cause any damage. Twitter user, @skh4102, said, “it didn’t destroy millions of acres of forest and thousands of homes and businesses and also kill people.” Chrissy Teigen’s baby’s gender (assigned en utero) reveal was better than yours ✨and✨ it didn’t destroy millions of acres of forest and thousands of homes and businesses and also kill people. — sarah k harris (@skh4102) September 18, 2020 Hey look a gender reveal that didn’t displace thousands of people and animals and destroy a bunch of wildlife😍 congrats @chrissyteigen 💙 pic.twitter.com/yDjBILELaB — claire de lune (@ClaireMPLS) September 17, 2020 Oh wow – you did a gender reveal without burning down a state! Chrissy Teigen and John Legend share two beautiful children, Luna, 4, and Miles, 2. Teigen has shared her journey with pregnancy, as they have struggled getting pregnant naturally and turned to IVF for previous pregnancies. Back in June, she took a pregnancy test before going in for surgery, and the test came back negative. A few weeks following her procedure, John and Chrissy round out that she indeed had been pregnant prior to the surgery, but luckily the baby and her are doing well. This lighthearted accident over Instagram on Teigen’s behalf, is honestly what we needed in 2020. No drama, no theatrics- just a funny mistake to lighten your week.
Deceased Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be celebrated by Democrats and even many Republicans as a long-time progressive voice on the bench. Even President Trump reacted with kind words towards her when he heard that she had died. But the fact remains that she was arguably the most ardent promoter of abortion from the bench for the last three decades, and Congressman Doug Collins took the opportunity to remind everyone of that on Twitter. RIP to the more than 30 million innocent babies that have been murdered during the decades that Ruth Bader Ginsburg defended pro-abortion laws. With @realDonaldTrump nominating a replacement that values human life, generations of unborn children have a chance to live. — Doug Collins (@CollinsforGA) September 19, 2020 Collins is running for Senate in Georgia, competing against fellow Republican Kelly Loeffler, Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock, and a handful of other candidates for the special election of the seat that Johnny Isakson retired from in 2019. It’s a “jungle primary,” meaning the top two candidates will face each other head-to-head in the subsequent general election. Loeffler currently leads in most polls with Collins and Warnock fighting for the second spot. The Tweet can be questioned for its timing but not for its message. Justice Ginsburg has long defended abortion at all levels, including writing the dissent in a ruling against partial-birth abortion in 2007. The Clinton-appointee has voted against every abortion restriction the bench has seen since joining the Supreme Court in 1993. She even viewed Roe v Wade as too restrictive, once claiming it did not affirm proper abortion rights to a high enough degree. Leftists were utterly outraged by Collins. They were out in arms on Twitter with vitriol that seemed heavy, even for them. (Warning: Language) Doug Collins is celebrating the death of a Supreme Court Justice. Unforgivable. COVID-19 may take down an independent news outlet Nobody said running a media site would be easy. We could use some help keeping this site afloat. Colleagues have called me the worst fundraiser ever. My skills are squarely rooted on the journalistic side of running a news outlet. Paying the bills has never been my forte, but we’ve survived. We have ads on the site that help, but since the site’s inception this has been a labor of love that otherwise doesn’t bring in the level of revenue necessary to justify it. When I left a nice, corporate career in 2017, I did so knowing I wouldn’t make nearly as much money. But what we do at NOQ Report to deliver the truth and fight the progressive mainstream media narrative that has plagued this nation is too important for me to sacrifice it for the sake of wealth. We know we’ll never make a ton of money this way, and we’re okay with that. Things have become harder with the coronavirus lockdowns. Both ad money and donations that have kept us afloat for a while have dropped dramatically. We thought we could weather the storm, but the so-called “surge” or “2nd-wave” that mainstream media and Democrats are pushing has put our prospects in jeopardy. In short, we are now in desperate need of financial assistance. The best way NOQ Report readers can help is to donate. Our Giving Fuel page makes it easy to donate one-time or monthly. Alternatively, you can donate through PayPal as well. We need approximately $11,500 to stay afloat for the rest of 2020, but more would be wonderful and any amount that brings us closer to our goal is greatly appreciated. The second way to help is to become a partner. We’ve strongly considered seeking angel investors in the past but because we were paying the bills, it didn’t seem necessary. Now, we’re struggling to pay the bills. This shouldn’t be the case as our traffic the last year has been going up dramatically. June, 2018, we had 11,678 visitors. A year later in June, 2019, we were up to 116,194. In June, 2020, we had 614,192. We’re heading in the right direction and we believe we’re ready talk to patriotic investors who want to not only “get in on the action” but more importantly who want to help America hear the truth. A high school in Dallas, Texas is under fire for an assignment that placed Kyle Rittenhouse, accused Kenosha shooter, on a list of ‘Modern Heroes’. Alongside Rittenhouse’s name included George Floyd and even Joseph Rosenbaum. An unidentified W.T. White high school teacher assigned their students a paper to write about a modern-day hero. This assignment would’ve been perfectly acceptable until you read the list of modern-day heroes that was provided to the students. It’s the @dallasschools assignment that has people across the country now asking questions. Accused #Kenosha killer among list of “heroes” for an English assignment. Defenders say it’s about “critical thinking”, others call it flat out racist, and wrong @CBSDFW pic.twitter.com/JnluETK3Br — Robbie Owens (@cbs11Robbie) September 16, 2020 There are many things to point out about this list. Joseph Rosenbaum, one of the protestors that were shot in Kenosha, is listed under the man who is accused of killing him. Another thing to note is that both Mahatma Gandhi and Malcolm X are spelled incorrectly. Prominent names such as those had people questioning if the error was a quick typo or just plain intentional carelessness. The English teacher who created the assignment is now under investigation by the Dallas school district. The school district commented, “An unapproved assignment posted in Google Classroom yesterday has been brought to our attention. Understandably, this caused some concern for the impacted students, and we apologize. Campus administration immediately removed the unapproved content and students are not required to complete that assignment. Due to personnel policies, we are not able to comment further, however, the appropriate steps are being followed pending investigation.” The ‘Unapproved’ High School Assignment The assignment was given to seniors at W.T. White High School in the Dallas Independent School District (ISD). The district did not identify the teacher but the assignment has been removed from Google Classroom. A Dallas W.T. school profile for the 2019-2020 school year shows that 6% of the students are white, 81% Hispanic, and 10% are African American. Business Insider received a statement from Robyn Harris, director of news and information for Dallas ISD saying, “Racial equity is a top priority in Dallas ISD, and we remain committed to providing a robust teaching environment where all students can learn. It is important that we continue to be culturally sensitive to our diverse populations and provide a space of respect and value.” An older sister of a senior at the school reported the assignment to her brother’s principal after sharing the assignment details with her family. Her brother could not believe the assignment he had received from his English teacher. She told a local news station, “The juxtaposition of George Floyd’s name with Kyle’s name was just astounding. The value of Black lives are not up for debate, and that’s what it felt like this was sort of getting at- by way of the names that were included.” “It was just like, ‘Oh my gosh, the spelling,’ ‘Oh my gosh, there are no women on here,’ and then very ardently the fact that a White supremacist murderer’s name is on a list with important historical figures”, she continued. The assignment caused debate on Twitter. Many were offended by the list and was unsure what the teacher was thinking. A warrant was issued for Blake’s arrest back in July. The warrant was on charges of third-degree sexual assault, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct. On August 23rd, police received a call informing them that Jacob Blake was at the home of the woman who filed the charges. Officials stated, the police went to arrest Blake and before they shot him, the officers tried to use a taser on him twice. Jacob Blake was shot in the back seven times in front of his children. Blake had staples placed along his back and abdomen. He is now paralyzed from the waist down. A video was posted to social media that quickly sparked more protests for racial justice continued after the death of many Black Americans including George Floyd, Brianna Taylor, and Elijah McClain. [embedded content] Kyle Rittenhouse Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old white male, is accused of killing two people and injuring a third during protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin. One of the men killed is 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum who was included in the list of ‘Modern Heroes’ the teacher provided. [embedded content] The National Foundation of Gun Rights, a conservative gun rights group, raised $50,000 for the Rittenhouse. The group announced they sent it to the teenage for, “defending himself and business owners.” Conservatives came to the defense of the teenage believing that his alleged actions were out of self-defense including President Trump. He is being charged as an adult in Wisconsin and faces life in prison if convicted of the highest charge. The list of ‘Modern Heroes’ was clearly questionable. It’s hard to see why the teacher thought that was acceptable. Do you think the teacher had a point behind the assignment? Did they create the assignment not realizing it was inappropriate?
Good thing Addison Rae got that movie deal because it looks like TikTok is finally dying. Early on Friday September 18th, the Trump administration announced that popular Chinese-owned apps WeChat and TikTok are being removed from the App Store. This ban goes into effect on Sunday, September 20th. Within hours after this announcement, “tiktokban” started trending on Twitter. Tiktok being removed from the App Store. This generation can’t have nothing good💀🤦🏾♂️ #tiktokban pic.twitter.com/YYZM1Ko0RH — Trevo 🌟 (@FuegoTrevo) September 18, 2020 TikTok has been a subject of distaste for the administration for months now, citing concerns about data stealing. The administration is planning on making TikTok basically unusable in the United States by mid-November. Only strong proof that TikTok is not a threat to American society and government will save it now. As expected, Twitter immediately took to joking about the whole situation. This isn’t the first time people have seen this happen. Vine only died a few years ago. Much like when Musical.ly or Vine died, many users joked about future struggles of popular TikTok users. One user impersonated a generic TikTok star, writing, “’Hey mom, it’s me, TikTok got banned so we can’t afford to live in the Hype House anymore. I’m sorry for saying that I didn’t need you and that I was on my grind, anyway, can I come back home? It blew up rapidly, but elicited a strong reaction from players. Phones were broken and thrown at walls, eventually making the creator so guilty that he removed it from the app store. People are comparing Flappy Bird’s short life to TikTok’s. PCMag tweeted, “Someone’s going to try and sell an iPhone with Flappy Bird, Fortnite and TikTok on eBay for $10,000 next week.” Someone's going to try and sell an iPhone with Flappy Bird, Fortnite and TikTok on eBay for $10,000 next week. — PCMag (@PCMag) September 18, 2020 Twitter actually attempted to explain why Flappy Bird was seemingly trending for no reason. They wrote, “When Flappy Bird suddenly stopped appearing in app stores, fans of the game made a point not to delete the app or replace their phone for fear they would never get the game back. That same strategy is being applied to TikTok and WeChat after the US Commerce Department decided to ban the Chinese-owned apps in the interest of ‘national security.’” tik tok is the new flappy bird. — sincerely, ivy marie. (@sincerelyivy_) September 18, 2020 Some Twitter users did take a more serious approach. They complained that the Trump administration was focusing on the completely wrong issue giving the state of present American society. One user wrote, “So let me get this straight. We are in the middle of a pandemic that has killed 200k americans, the economy is trash, and there are mass protests against police brutality but Trump wants to focus on banning tik tok? #tiktokban” so let me get this straight. we are in the middle of a pandemic that has killed 200k americans, the economy is trash, and there are mass protests against police brutality but trump wants to focus on banning tik tok? #tiktokban pic.twitter.com/7423eG1Ol1 — abbi (@fallawaybandito) September 18, 2020 Entrepreneur Carol Roth said, “The #tiktokban is something that China would do. Instead of bringing in fan cams, users actually seemed to mourn the loss of an app that brought joy to so many. “TikTok has literally helped a generation of depressed teens feel like they belong.Tiktok is more then dancing and funny videos. There are so many different things on tiktok from relatable memes, school help, and feeling more confident in yourself. Tiktok literally United A whole generation, it helped us understand that there are people just like us everywhere. Okay, Take away our safe place and we will take away yours.” The future of TikTok is very unclear. The Trump administration has been threatening to take away the app for a while now, but this is the first time there is a clear end date. Microsoft recently tried to acquire the app, but the deal fell through. Instead TikTok went to Oracle. It is unclear what Oracle is planning to do with TikTok, but updated security is a possibility, meaning that TikTok might be able to exist. Will TikTok be able to survive the wrath of the Trump administration? Or will it move to the graveyard of apps gone too soon? Only time will tell the fate of this app.
Paul Rudd made a PSA asking ‘fellow millennials’ and young people to wear a mask. Many people responded to the video calling Rudd ‘hilarious’. After watching the video, I think we can all agree. [embedded content] Actor, Paul Rudd, tried to appeal to young people by explaining to them the importance of wearing a mask in a way that they would understand. He used language that is known to be frequently used with the younger generation. He starts by saying, “Yo what up dogs Paul Rudd here actor and certified young person. A few days ago, I was talking on the iPhone with my homie Governor Cuomo and he’s just going off about how us millennials need to wear masks because get this apparently a lot of COVID is transferred from us millennials.” The CDC recommends that people wear masks not only to protect themselves but others as well. Specifically, it is suggested that anyone two years or older should wear a mask. Although it varies, many states have mandated the use of masks. And even a state has not mandated masks to be worn, places of business have taken it upon themselves to require masks. Rudd continued, “Yas queens like ourselves we want to go to bars, we want to drink, hook up, do our TikToks. I get it. I’m not gonna preach at you like some celebrity, blehh. This is a convo where I talk and you shut up and wear your mask.” Celebrities quickly shared the video applauding Rudd for his message. Real talk: listen to this Regular-Sized Man. Thanks to Paul Rudd for helping us spread this crucial message and reach young people like him.” [embedded content] Mask Up America has come out with many ads for the mask campaign. Another one featured celebrities like Robert De Niro. Rudd finishes the video telling viewers that he shouldn’t have to make it fun for people to understand. “Just wear a mask. It’s easy. It’s simple, please. It’s not hard people are dying. Hundreds of thousands of people are dying and it’s preventable. It’s preventable! Just wear a mask. I shouldn’t have to make it fun. It’s science.” The Mask Debate There are many reasons why people choose whether or not to wear a mask. People have involved things like politics and religion for reasons as to why they will not wear one. Other reasons like discomfort or the belief that it does not do anything to protect you has also been used. ‘Karens’ are often the ones posted to social media for refusing to put on a mask to do things like enter a store. A video was posted to Reddit on Tuesday showing a group of anti-maskers storming through a Target in South Florida. The group had no masks and yelled at other shoppers to take theirs off. They came in the store chanting, “Take it off, take off your mask.” WELCOME TO SOUTH FLORIDA 🥴😷 #wearyourmask from PublicFreakout Florida had a major spike in cases over the summer with over 10,000 deaths. The sunshine state does not currently have any travel restrictions in place. Although, health officials do advise people to wear masks. Some comments pointing out that many of the protestors were wearing ‘Make America Great Again’ clothing. The video made some users uncomfortable. Twitter Inc, which was recently targeted in a hacking campaign that compromised the accounts of prominent political figures and celebrities, said on Thursday it was implementing more security measures for certain election-related accounts in the United States. Accounts belonging to the U.S. executive branch, Congress, presidential campaigns and political parties are among those which Twitter said in a blog post it would require to take security measures “given the unique sensitivities of the election period.” The accounts will be required to use a strong password, Twitter will enable by default a setting that helps prevent unauthorized password changes and the users will be strongly encouraged to enable two-factor authentication. In July, hackers were able to access Twitter’s internal systems and seize control of accounts, including Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and former U.S. President Barack Obama, and solicit digital currency. Twitter has said its employees were duped into sharing account credentials. Lawmakers have expressed concerns over what would happen if a similar breach occurred a day before the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 3. After the hack, the White House said it had been in constant contact with Twitter to ensure the security of President Donald Trump’s Twitter account, which was not jeopardized in the hack. Other types of accounts for which Twitter is requiring or recommending these security measures include those belonging to members of the U.S. Congress, U.S. governors and secretaries of state, political candidates that have Twitter’s “Election Labels” and some major U.S. news outlets and political journalists. Twitter said that in the coming weeks it would put in place other internal security safeguards for the accounts, including better detections to help the company and account holders respond quickly to suspicious activity and increased login defenses to prevent malicious account takeover attempts. Paris Hilton’s documentary, This is Paris, shocked viewers with its intimate detailing of the socialite’s childhood trauma. Produced as a YouTube “original” movie, the documentary can be watched in entirety for free on YouTube. [embedded content] Everyone is familiar with Paris Hilton, great granddaughter of Conrad Hilton, who created the Hilton Hotel empire. Paris has been in the spotlight from a young age, appearing as the “dumb blonde,” rich, snobby, party-going socialite. Many people know her as a reality star from her TV show with Nicole Richie, The Simple Life. The show only reinforced her dumb blonde persona. She is known as the original “influencer,” having invented selfies and coining signature catchphrases such as “that’s hot,” and “loves it.” As she has grown older, she has turned her back on her partying lifestyle and now focuses her attention on her DJ career as well as the 19 different business brands she owns. She has a line for almost everything it seems, from skincare to fragrance, and she is the face of them all. While she has become a business mogul, she still maintains true to her pink girly brand that has made her so famous. But while she portrays this blonde bombshell persona to the world, her new documentary explores another side of Paris, the real side. So as it turns out, Paris Hilton isn’t actually the airhead everyone always thought she was. I feel terrible for her, but I also feel proud for her at the same time. Suffering abuse to one day finally show the world the truth. I liked her in House Of Wax. #ThisIsParis — PennThreeper (@PennThreeper) September 14, 2020 This Is Paris gives Hilton a chance to explore the trauma she endured at “emotional behavior” schools when she was a teenager. She opens up to producers and family about the emotional and physical abuse she endured attending those schools and how it has affected her, years later. Hilton also opens up about the sex tape with then boyfriend that was released without her consent. The effects of which still weigh heavy on the celebrity and her family. Hilton, age 39 now, struggles with insomnia and anxiety from her disturbing experiences. The documentary also explores Paris’s childhood and the inner workings of the Hilton family. Paris was praised for her beauty from a young age by family members such as her grandmother. But her sister Nicky says Paris, “is a boy at heart.” The glamorous persona she shows to the world is a mask. She has built a shield for herself to protect her from trauma. 2020 full of surprises. I did not expect the @ParisHilton documentary to be one of the best things I’ve watched this year. But it straight up was. I do love a good perspective change. It’s raw, seems legit and if you’ve ever judged her, it’s worth your time. — KHood (@HoodFarms) September 15, 2020 I’m not even being dramatic when I say that the new @ParisHilton documentary on YouTube is a must watch. All they said was that Paris went to boarding school. “King and Queen of sweeping things under the rug,” said Paris, referring to her parents. Having everything taken away from her and enduring abuse when she went to these schools has left Paris with anxieties that manifest in interesting ways, as any trauma survivor is all too familiar with. Hilton confessed that she has found herself in physically abusive relationships multiple times because she “almost thought it was normal.” Did I just spend 2 hours watching Paris Hilton's documentary? Yes, and you should too. pic.twitter.com/ey03mV0Vsa — 「 leo 」 (@LxoSmith) September 15, 2020 At the correctional school, staff would force students to take undisclosed pills, leaving them “tired and numb.” Paris recounts that many of the students were on suicide watch and that she was worried she would become one of them. Paris also shares a horrifying memory of being put in solitary confinement when she was caught not taking the pills. She said they would lock students up, unclothed and alone, for 20 hours at a time. This was something she never told her parents about, and told her mother about for the first time on camera. People seem unconvinced that Kathy Hilton really cared. I watched #ParisHilton 's YouTube documentary and I was surprised to find out the trauma she legit went through as a teenager and how callous her mother was when she found out. Kathy Hilton legit just brushed it off. #ThisIsParis — Letitia fucking Lewis (@Blerd_Life) September 15, 2020 There's quite a lot to unpack from this Paris documentary. The only way she kept herself going at PROVO was to dream of what she would become when she was able to leave. 22 years later, and Paris is ready to face her trauma head on. She meets with four former classmates of PROVO to spread awareness about the mistreatment taking place in these institutions. Many commend her for her bravery in speaking about her experience at PROVO. This Is Paris has lifted some of her ‘that’s hot’ mask and exposed a more life-like side, one who is vulnerable and has been through hardships. This documentary seems to have been a therapeutic type of journey for her. While the ending of the documentary alludes to an answer, we are curious to see if the Paris that we have come to know and love will die, replaced with a new, more authentic Paris.
Kanye West makes headlines yet again for another unpredictable and questionable decision in 2020. The rapper decided to urinate on one of his several Grammy awards. And it’s all documented. Trust me … I WONT STOP pic.twitter.com/RmVkqrSa4F — ye (@kanyewest) September 16, 2020 West tweeted a video of himself peeing on the award with the caption: “Trust me…I WON’T STOP.” And as usual, the internet has exploded with countless memes and comments on his latest controversial decision. Over the years, West has secured 21 Grammy awards and that achievement seemingly meant a lot to him in the past. However, it seems as though things have apparently changed since then. His decision was sparked by his ongoing feud with Universal Music Group and Sony/ATV Music Publishing. West wants the ownership of his master recordings and vows to not release any new music until he is released from any and all contracts. 90% of the record contracts on the planet are still on a royalty A standard record deal is a trap to NEVER have you recoup, and there’s all these hidden costs like the “distribution fees” many labels put in their contracts to make even more money off our work without even trying. — ye (@kanyewest) September 16, 2020 The “Stronger’ rapper insists that he has made billions of dollars from his music and does not have to worry about being kept quiet or negatively impacted by any record label. He went on a tweet ramage and stated that the current music industry is similar to “modern day slavery.” This is before West posted ten separate contracts that he has with Universal. And as a result, he breached any and all nondisclosure agreements. “Instructed by Kanye West to review numerous contracts” will sound great on my CV pic.twitter.com/YV3Hu8QkzJ — K Nina (@Klaud9iine) September 16, 2020 In a tweet afterward, West stated: “When you sign a music deal you sign away your rights. However, this time is a bit different compared to what we have seen in the past. He has not only called out specific individuals, but he also went as far as urinating on a prestigious award many artists only dream of winning during their lifetime. West peeing on one of his Grammy awards follows the viral public outburst at his first presidential rally. During a speech to those in attendance, he explained that he “almost killed his daughter” before she was born due to contemplating Kim Kardashian-West, his now wife, getting an abortion. This drew the attention of millions online. This is most likely because that information was never shared or spoken about publicly in the past. Kanye West: “My Mom saved my life. My Dad wanted to abort me … There would have been no Kanye West … I almost killed my daughter." pic.twitter.com/wL0ynH0EXT — Alex Salvi (@alexsalvinews) July 19, 2020 After the general public became aware of the outburst, West decided to explain to his followers that his life is similar to the movie Get Out. He also claimed that Kim Kardashian-West and her family were attempting to lock him up. Kim Kardashian responded to his remarks publicly with compassion and explained that Kanye is a “complicated” man who was having a bipolar episode. Most recently, the Kardashian and Jenner family have decided to make the next season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians their last. Kim Kardashian West acknowledged that her husband Kanye West has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and said it's "incredibly complicated and painful" for many to understand. She went on to call him a "brilliant but complicated" person. https://t.co/s1Xf6Ocqf4 — CNN (@CNN) July 22, 2020 This latest Twitter rant involved not only the general public, but also public figures. In a recent series of tweets, West decided to call on Black Americans to claim the ownership of their work and take back their power. He added that “black masters matter” and urged NBA athletes to stand with him regarding this ownership battle. In a shocking plea, he also begged his so-called nemesis Taylor Swift as well as other musicians like Drake and Bono to support him. Bono can I get a retweet Love you Paul can I get a retweet love you Drake Kendrick even Taylor We need you right noooooow ⛷ — ye (@kanyewest) September 16, 2020 Kanye West and Taylor Swift have experienced their fair share of feuds over the past decade. However, ownership of their music is something that they may see eye-to-eye on. From secret weddings to cheating allegations, we have all been aboard Cardi B’s and Offset’s emotional rollercoaster as they climbed hills and encountered steep drops. However, as they neared their third wedding anniversary, the rappers have decided to unbuckle their seatbelts and end their wild ride. After overwhelming evidence of Offset repeatedly cheating throughout their relationship, Cardi B finally had enough. On Tuesday, Cardi B’s lawyer submitted documents in Atlanta to divorce Offset and request full custody of their two-year old daughter Kulture. However, on Wednesday morning Cardi B made some adjustments as she disagreed with the terms her lawyer asked for. She wants an “amicable” divorce and a healthy co-parenting relationship with her daughter’s father. Relationship Timeline In attempts to keep their personal lives on the down low, Offset and Cardi B secretly got married in September 2017, but Offset publicly proposed in October – a month after they were already married. After months of keeping people in the dark on their marital status, the husband and wife revealed the truth in June 2018. However, the secrets did not end there. For a while, Cardi B held her pregnancy a secret as she wanted people to focus on her music rather than her personal life. When it became impossible to hide her pregnancy, Cardi B shocked fans as she boasted her pregnant body during her performance on SNL in April 2018. Cardi B officially reveals her pregnancy on #SNL https://t.co/EsbqDvIny7 pic.twitter.com/ePl3kEsyHx — Rap-Up (@RapUp) April 8, 2018 Although their relationship had many milestones, there were rocks in the road as videos resurfaced of Offset cheating on Cardi B in December 2017 and January 2018. Despite pressure from fans to leave him, Cardi B stuck by his side. But a year later, Cardi B announced on Instagram that the couple had broken up and she’s looking into getting a divorce. Aww the way Cardi B is talking🥺 pic.twitter.com/CNNsEmB7sp — AbikeArab Money💸 (@papaya_ex) September 16, 2020 Shortly after their breakup went public, Offset confessed that he missed his wife and ambushed Cardi B onstage during the Rolling Loud music festival with signs asking her to take him back. After a month of Offset’s multiple grand gestures, the couple got back together at the end of January 2019. For over a year, it seemed that their marriage was going strong as the couple expressed their love for each other on social media – especially this summer. But it seems Offset has not learned his lesson as many women have come forward exposing their affairs with the Migos member, leading Cardi B to finally divorce him. Divorce Details According to TMZ, the original court documents stated that the couple have been separated for some time and Cardi B has no intention of getting back together with Offset. Cardi B’s lawyer requested for an “equitable share of marital assets,” which leads us to assume that – unlike many other celebrity marriages – there was no prenup when the rappers got married. Also, the lawyer asked for Cardi B to get full custody of her daughter and for Offset to pay child support and legal expenses. However, Cardi B was surprised by the stance her lawyer was taking, which led her to make some changes on Wednesday morning. In the new documents, she wants Offset to have joint custody of their daughter and to not be forced to give any financial support. She wants this divorce to be smooth and friendly. The exes are set to appear in court on November 4 to determine the official terms of their divorce. Twitter Responses Although this is a serious and saddening situation for the two parties involved, people are taking to Twitter to create memes and jokes about their divorce. Cardi B is known for her sexual and explicit songs, and many are analyzing the lyrics to her song ‘WAP’ to explain why Offset was unfaithful. However, many are slut-shaming Cardi B in the process. Cardi B should’ve really learned to cook & clean for Offset instead of just relying on that WAP… didn’t get her too far after all. — DeAnna Lorraine 🇺🇸 (@DeAnna4Congress) September 15, 2020 I guess it ain't a WAP, her husband still get real WAP LOLWHAT does that ring mean now. Charli and Dixie D’Amelio quickly rose to fame on the social media platform TikTok. Within a year, the sisters became a household name and one of the most popular duos in the entertainment industry. And while gaining viral attention on TikTok is not rare, speculation and conspiracies revolving around how the pair gained this sort of popularity continue to circulate. Many social media users have their own assumptions or explanations for how this all may have happened. However, one particular conspiracy theory caught the attention of Dixie D’Amelio and resulted in her responding. In less than one year, a user pointed out that Charli D’Amelio has gained over 90 million fans on the app. This, as well as the user’s theory for how this happened, appeared on a TikTok account called “spicyopinions” which spreads theories and information similar to this one. @spicyopinions on TikTok But what is the user’s conspiracy theory? They explain that the sister’s popularity is all thanks to their father: Marc D’Amelio. Marc is a Republican and ran for a seat in the Connecticut State Senate back in 2018. However, he lost. This is where the conspiracy theory comes in. The TikTok user claims that the sisters only gained popularity in order to help Marc gain the younger vote in a “future election.” They continued to mention that Charli gains about 5 million new followers every week and that it’s simply unheard of in TikTok culture. The theory continues by stating: “Her Dad is sus. He’s rich AND a politician. Those things never go together well.” Most TikTok stars gain their popularity from their unique personalities, creativity and dance skills. However, many users have been quick to defend that there is something very suspicious about their rise to fame. In this instance, it had to do with a political motive. Due to the sisters’ popularity, this particular theory believes that younger and less informed voters (such as big fans of the D’Amelios) would vote for Marc in the future without doing much research. And once Dixie D’Amelio caught wind of this conspiracy, she decided to respond. Under the theory posted on TikTok by spicyopinions, Dixie decided to comment. Her response “lol what” sums up how ridiculous that theory is, especially for the family to hear and find on the internet. Dixie Responds Of course, fans of Dixie and Charli quickly came to their defense in the comments. Others still believe that this theory could definitely be true. Guys there's a conspiracy theory about charli's fame and it actually makes sense. Photos began circulating the internet from her VSCO account which showed multiple Trump-Pence signs up on a wall. This caused the TikTok star to quickly begin receiving death threats and public backlash on social media. Dixie D’amelio is receiving backlash after an old VSCO post led fans to believe that she is a Trump supporter. Dixie denied these claims. pic.twitter.com/bA220YFYkh — IG: @expsingshadycelebs (@shadycelebsig) May 6, 2020 Dixie responded to the resurfaced photo by tweeting that the photo was taken in someone else’s house. She went on to explain her political views and defend her character in another tweet. i am an independent voter and I will always vote for the person and never the party. i find it sad that i have received death threats due to inaccurate speculation of my political belief. i have never supported trump. period. — dixie (@dixiedamelio) May 6, 2020 This seems to be just another conspiracy theory about the sisters and D’Amelio family. Other popular theories are that their father is a private investor in TikTok or that their family is paying for their followers. This is amongst other crazy commentary and conspiracy theories that have been shared on the internet over the past year. He has over 7 million followers on TikTok alone. However, Charli remains the most popular creator on the platform with over 80 million followers to date. After this conspiracy theory video reached thousands of views and over 50,000 likes, it quickly became a topic of conversation for TikTok fans around the world. Many do believe that Charli’s fast rise to fame is indeed suspicious, but that this theory just doesn’t add up. can we talk abt charli and her sudden rise to fame for a sec? this app has been around for about 5 years. not ONCE has somebody rose to fame so quickly and with SO MANY FOLLOWERS. @charlidamelio #charlidamelio #tiktok #hype #fame — 5️⃣👄5️⃣ (@_ladillin_) September 14, 2020 Currently, Charli D’Amelio’s fame continues to grow and captivate more fans by the day. Her newest collaboration, a drink with Dunkin,’ has also taken the internet by storm. Fans and influencers have both tried and reviewed the TikTok sensation’s order ever since it was added to the official Dunkin’ menu. Yup… it really has her name on it. 🙌 ➡️ @charlidamelio. In fact, Charli is on the path to 90 million followers on TikTok. What do you think about this conspiracy? Is it absolutely ridiculous or convincing enough to believe? Melania Trump tweeted about ‘the truth’ coming out on September 10th and people on Twitter felt the tweet was a little ironic, to say the least. After all, the truth did come out and it wasn’t pretty. The Tweet That Started It All Stephanie Grisham, Chief of Staff and Spokesperson for Melania Trump, tweeted out about people saying lies to get some money and time on television. I continue to be shocked by the lengths that power hungry people will go to, in a pathetic attempt to be relevant. Spreading falsehoods in exchange for a few dollars & some TV time is never worth it. — Stephanie Grisham (@StephGrisham45) September 11, 2020 Although Grisham did not mention specifics, many people speculate that it could be about the recent books that have come out discussing President Trump and the White House. All he can say is POTUS didn't handle it well.He has no idea what to do — Jim Monroe (@3658_1) September 13, 2020 ‘The truth’ seems to be a popular topic of conversation for both parties but there are some things that you cannot deny. And things Twitter certainly will not forget. I think it’s safe to say that Twitter’s lesson of the day for the First Lady and fellow republicans, would be those with glass houses should not throw stones.
On September 16th, Kim Kardashian West’s shape wear company, Skims, will have released their new maternity line but the release comes with controversy. The new line will offer “sculpting” bodysuits, bras, shorts and briefs specially designed for pregnant, and nursing women. According to Kim’s Instagram, the line, “offers the best in comfort and support for your changing body during and after pregnancy.” The Controversy As soon as the brand announced the shape wear, disappointed celebrities and twitter users flooded Kim Kardashian with angry and concerned tweets concerning the body image of pregnant and postpartum women. Social media users were concerned about why pregnant women need shape wear, claiming that women should be proud of their pregnancy and not ashamed of their changing bodies. This comes after years of the Kardashian-Jenner family promoting a specific body type which was encouraged with waist trainers and spandex shape wear; not to mention the pressure they placed on themselves to lose baby weight following the birth of each of their children. Fans are worried that this is, once again, the Kardashian’s imposing unhealthy body image. And it is especially sensitive because it is now affecting pregnant women. Celebrities and fans alike took to twitter to give Kim and Skims a piece of their mind. The celebrity that started the conversation about Kim’s new line was Jameela Jamil. The Good Place actress shared her concern over Twitter, the same day the announcement for the line dropped. She said, “It would be so cool if pregnant people could just be allowed to be pregnant and get bigger and not be self conscious, and enjoy the miracle taking place inside their body and not have to worry about feeling embarrassed/shamed that their body is changing for an amazing reason.” It would be so cool if pregnant people could just be allowed to be pregnant and get bigger and not be self conscious, and enjoy the miracle taking place inside their body and not have to worry about feeling embarrassed/shamed that their body is changing for an amazing reason. — Jameela Jamil 🌈 (@jameelajamil) September 13, 2020 This started a slew of responses aiming at both Jamil and the maternity shape wear. Some were parents who had previously faced body image issues surrounding their pregnancies. My dad came over after I hadn’t seen him for weeks due to lockdown and said ‘oh you’ve got fatter!’ And I knew he meant more pregnant but it left me feeling so insecure for the rest of the week. Nobody should be commenting on anyone else’s size ever. Ever. Pregnant or not — Alex (@malexwalex) September 13, 2020 For me, it was the time afterwards where I felt more pressure.'When will you be losing the weight?''Are you pregnant again? Oh, you just haven't lost your weight yet.' I'm proud of what my body did and I'm in no rush to look like I did before my son was born ❤ — Laura Vance (@laurajaynefox1) September 13, 2020 Standing by Maternity Shape Wear But the majority of comments were focused around Jamil’s lack of expertise in the pregnancy realm. Many parents in the comments were quick to point out the functionality of maternity shape wear, which has existed years before the Skims launch. In Kardashian-West’s defense, the shape wear is to better support a pregnant person’s growing tummy and the physical pressure on a person’s body. having been pregnant 4 times it was really hard to find decent support for my belly, easing off my pelvis. I had to wear a belly band. Kim k’s maternity skims aren’t ‘shapewear’ they’re support. And I only hope more places start to sell something similar. — G (@elvonhar) September 13, 2020 Everyone criticizing #skims and @KimKardashian clearly have never met a pregnant person. You know they make pregnancy belts to hold up bellies, right? This shape wear is just that but cute. #chillout — Nicole (@smallinstature) September 14, 2020 @KimKardashian bravo on Maternity Skims! I wish I had this support when I was carrying my children. — Fay (@Fayizzle) September 14, 2020 This tweet even went as far as to claim that those in opposition to the launch are not taking pregnant disabled people into consideration. It’s also extremely ableist to assume that because you can do something with ease that everyone else will be able to. I imagine this doesn’t just help the average pregnant person but anyone carrying who might have disabilities of some kind.Very narrow minded indeed. — ~ ~ ~ ~ (@toltorg) September 14, 2020 Kim K’s Response Kim Kardashian-West was quick to respond to all the tweets, and responses flooding in about the controversy. She took to Twitter to release a statement. The KUWTK star said, “To anyone who has an issue with maternity solutionwear, and if you haven’t been pregnant before you may not know the struggle of what it’s like carrying all of this weight the way I did along with millions of strong women, @skims maternity line is not to slim but to support.” Based on the majority of positive feedback we have received so far from pregnant women around the world, I am incredibly proud to provide a solution that will provide comfort and support during the times that we all need it most, during pregnancy and after. — Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) September 13, 2020 She followed her initial comeback with retweets and screenshots of mothers showing their support for her brand and new line. Not only did her fans back her up, but her famous friends did as well. Most notably, Chrissy Teigen ran to Kim K’s defense. On her instagram, the model and cookbook author, showed off her Skims while pregnant with her third child. She told her followers that she was not trying to look any slimmer, but just wanted to feel more comfortable. Many people assumed that this was Teigen’s way of digging at Jamil’s previous tweet. Jamil was quick to let everyone know that the model’s post was not about her. Just Spoke to Chrissy. She wasn’t talking about me in her video at all. The garbage way that tabloids try to set women upon each other to create a fantasy bitch fight for entertainment is so disgusting and archaic. We all know each other… you can’t just make shit up about us.🖕🏽 pic.twitter.com/tCuTQjQeYD — Jameela Jamil 🌈 (@jameelajamil) September 14, 2020 Drama seems to follow Kim Kardashian wherever she goes. This is not the first time her brand has faced controversy. In 2019, Kim originally planned to name her company ‘Kimono,’ which was followed by severe backlash, as the name was clearly appropriation of Japanese culture. While the launch of Skims maternity line was met with anger, it was immensely welcomed by pregnant women among Twitter.
Marvel actor Chris Evans gave his fans an unexpected look into his personal life during an Instagram live session on Saturday night when he unintentionally shared a nude picture of himself. Fans of Evans were quick to defend him and they demanded we respect the actor and his privacy. These reactions have sparked a conversation about sexism on the internet, specifically questioning why female celebrities face much different treatment upon accidental releases of their nudes. In a since deleted post, the scandalous picture of Evans left the internet in a pandemonium. People all over the world were in shock and awe as the picture was quickly circulated on Twitter. (If you find yourself curious and want to do some digging, make sure you’re not using a work computer when searching). But, rather than make fun of Evans or hyper sexualize the image, fans are calling for censorship and to respect the privacy of Evans. Thousands of people are trying to acknowledge that Chris Evans has brought a lot of good into the world. Even outside his hit films, he is known for charity work and sincere generosity. Therefore, fans argue we shouldn’t judge him on this one mistake. In an attempt to change the narrative, the internet exploded with fans praising the actor for his other assets. (The internet, of all places, is saying we should work together to keep things more private.) While others agree we should treat Chris Evans with kindness, they can’t help but wonder why women don’t get the same treatment when they have nude photos released on the web. Chris Evans accidentally leaked a nude photo. For the most part, social media has rallied around him. Nobody called him a slut. Nobody insisted he was an attention whore. Nobody thinks his career is ruined. We need to give women this same love & respect. 💯💯💯#ChrisEvans — Anne Boleyn (Sussex Supporter) (@TudorChick1501) September 13, 2020 I loved the way how people are supporting #ChrisEvans with so much positivity and love to keep his mental health in sound state. I really wish and hope that if a girl's nudes are leaked unintentionally, we people will help her in the same way instead of just slut shaming her!🤞❤️ pic.twitter.com/Z8h6inenun — Priya (@priyarameshhh) September 13, 2020 It’s clear that regardless of his beloved acting and generosity, Chris Evans is getting much different treatment on the web because he is a man. This accidentally leaked explicit image is creating meaningful conversations on the patriarchy, sexism and the treatment of women in Hollywood. Actress Kat Dennings took to Twitter to comment the following: The public respect for Chris Evans’ privacy/feelings is wonderful. Wouldn’t it be nice if it extended to women when this kind of thing happens? — Kat Dennings (@OfficialKat) September 13, 2020 Unfortunately, throughout the history of the internet, women have been far less lucky and privileged to their privacy when incidents like this occur. For example, back in 2014, Jennifer Lawrence was a victim of the ‘Celebgate’ hacking ring and had her explicit photos published online anonymously. News sites and social media users were quick to blame Lawrence, saying female celebrities should always be prepared for a hacking and need to avoid taking sexual photos if they don’t want them out for public consumption someday. @EmWatson @megturney Simply ask yourself, why in the hell you're putting your nude pics on a device that is 24/7 connected to internet — Fabio Bertozzi (@fabiobrtz) September 2, 2014 Lawrence spoke with Vanity Fair about the incident and said that, “just because I’m a public figure…does not mean I asked for this. It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting.” Talk show host, Wendy Williams, responded to Lawrence’s statement by saying, “Um, it’s not your choice, it’s in the Cloud and I’ve looked several times. So I guess I’m disgusting for looking?” She proceeded to tell her audience that essentially Lawrence is to blame for the photos leaking because she took them in the first place. [embedded content] As you can see, it’s not just fans who have a vastly different perspective, but also the media outlets. They report on these incidents differently based on if it is a man or a woman. We have yet to find an article or publication that is condemning Evans or saying he shouldn’t have taken a photo like he did in the first place. It is fair to note too that more often than not, women are hacked and the photos are stolen from them, whereas in the case of Chris Evans, he essentially hacked himself. It’s safe to say privacy was the last thing Lawrence got from the public or the media. We have to wonder what needs to happen in order for women to get the same respect and treatment as their male counterparts. It’s great that six years later, Chris Evans is treated with more respect, but we hope this respect will also be given to the next female actress with leaked photos. Evans has not made a public statement on the photos as of Monday morning. While he should not be condemned for his accidental nude leak, the same should go for his female peers, without question. In the end, this accident has resulted in meaningful discussion which will hopefully bring serious reform when it comes to the privacy and respect of others on the internet. What do y’all think? Would every celebrity be met with this much respect and love? Is the respect only given to the one and only Captain America? Is he really getting special treatment because he is a man? Or, will we ever respect the privacy of female celebrities on the internet? We want to know your thoughts!
Though the “#RipJKRowling” hashtag might suggest otherwise, JK Rowling isn’t actually dead. Her career, though, is basically over. This hashtag started trending on Twitter after details about Rowling’s next book were released. In a totally unsurprising twist, it sounds super transphobic. tw transphobia //every day is a good day to stop giving jk rowling even one precious cent of your money, but ESPECIALLY in light of her moving her violent transphobia out of the subtext of her books and into the text https://t.co/x6fHEjPCzK — casey mcquiston ⚡️ preorder ONE LAST STOP (@casey_mcquiston) September 14, 2020 British publication The Telegraph released a review of her new novel “Troubled Blood” on September 13. Spoiler alert: they said the book was bad. The news about the plot of “Troubled Blood” didn’t go viral until “Pink News” covered the story on September 14th. The book is about a cis male murderer with a nasty way of catching victims. He lures them into safety by dressing up as a woman. If anyone else wrote this, fans might be interested. This plot coming from Rowling, who has openly hated transgender people and invalidates trans women every chance she gets, is a huge blow. If she didn't have a history of anti-trans bigotry, this could be an interesting premise for a series of well-done adult novels. Hopefully a serious author would consider the real serious implications of such a tale. But since she does, it likely won't be any of those things. — Catherine ~The Witch of Batuu~ (@CatherineKiwi1) September 14, 2020 Rowling has effectively turned a significant part of both her fanbase and the book community against her. Not only are Twitter users and ex-fans slamming her, but so are famous bestselling authors. Aiden Thomas, a trans author, tweeted that he was “absolutely DISGUSTED by JKR and Hachette.” Earlier this week, Thomas hit the “New York Times Bestseller List” for his novel about trans men. Also angry was Casey McQuiston, writing, “every day is a good day to stop giving JK Rowling even one precious cent of your money.” i am absolutely DISGUSTED by JKR and Hachette. i am filled with rage and hate. she is pushing narratives that get trans folks discriminated against, brutalized and murdered. this is an aggressive act of violence against the trans community. — Aiden Thomas 🌈👻 CEMETERY BOYS is out now! (@aidenschmaiden) September 14, 2020 In response to today’s comments, Twitter users started “#RipJKRowling.” This hashtag became a snarky way for Twitter users to show that Rowling was essentially “dead” to them. Many also used it to celebrate the death of her reputation and her book sales. The tag got so popular so quickly, that Twitter had to clarify that, no, she isn’t actually dead. for me it's how twitter had to specify that she's actually alive AHAHAHAHAHA #RIPJKRowling pic.twitter.com/MkWWyXpDof — 🕷️Lily, Fluffy Spider Wife🕸️ BLM (@SapphoMode) September 14, 2020 tw // food rare footage of me attending jk rowling's funeral. it was a fun celebration! heven gained another angle though 🤍🕊 #RIPJKRowlingpic.twitter.com/dR80Cjfgfv — eleanor says gn (@msprobellematic) September 14, 2020 Rowling has been hit with hate after making transphobic comments in the past. This has been going for years now. Trans people, especially trans women, were shocked and hurt by Rowling’s blatant trans-exclusionary radical feminism. Though it was what she practiced, Rowling took great offense to that term. In 2020 alone, Rowling seems to constantly tweet, retweet, or like a transphobic post. Earlier this year, Rowling wrote an open letter to the Internet to address the comments being made about her transphobia. Instead of an apology, Rowling actually made things worse for herself but defending her offensive comments. In June, Rowling posted an extremely long letter on her website explaining why she was so against transgender people. In her article, she claimed to have struggles with her own gender identity issues, but grew out of them. She states that this is a common response. “I want to be very clear here: I know transition will be a solution for some gender dysphoric people, although I’m also aware through extensive research that studies have consistently shown that between 60-90% of gender dysphoric teens will grow out of their dysphoria.” As expected, many people did not like this letter. she’s not dead or anything, but even tom riddle is more alive than her career and reputation 😼#RIPJKRowling pic.twitter.com/3LnLLI0QI1 — fer is looking for hp moots (@70sDRACO_) September 14, 2020 Later, in early July, Rowling compared healthcare for transgender people, which is regarded as a real medical practice that makes individuals feel better about themselves as well as keeps them healthy, to gay conversion therapy, a practice that is widely disrespected and hated for the trauma it has caused. She had all of this bad publicity, and still chose to add fuel to the fire. JK Rowling is singlehandedly creating anti-trans sentiment that is very real and very, very dangerous to us. She is not just sharing her opinion— she is starting a brand new wave of transphobia. — Vee S. (@findmereading) September 14, 2020 Rowling does have some supporters, though. In response to “#RipJKRowling,” her supporters started a “IStandWithJKRowling” hashtag. Some strongly agree with Rowling’s point of view, praising her for being willing to speak out in a way that few would dare to. They call the people who are against Rowling “fragile.” Just a bunch of narcissistic fetishists and cosplayers mocking a woman who dared to speak the truth. Your self centred fragility is nobody else's problem.#RIPJKRowling — Hayden Hewitt (@HaydenHewitt) September 14, 2020 The fact the disgusting hashtag #RIPJKRowling is trending on this mess of a platform, tells you everything you need to know about the mindset of these TRAs. Read the comments. Don’t ever ask me to justify my position on this again. It’s sick. Just sick. #IStandWithJKRowling — James Dreyfus 🟥 (@DreyfusJames) September 14, 2020 Others are claiming that the amount of hate Rowling gets is due to misogyny. They cite examples of projects by men that did not receive this much hate. Unsurprisingly the #RIPJKRowling trend is misogyny in full view. If you haven't woken up to the fact women can't even define themselves as different biologically from men (yep, in 2020) without being harassed, maybe it's time you ask why.#IStandWithJKRowling #waronwomen — natalie (@clovhamm) September 14, 2020 You must have never heard of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho — YaBoiMugen (@BoiMugen) September 14, 2020 Rowling’s words are controversial, potentially leading to more hate and violence. Yet, there are still plenty who agree with her. It’s just crazy to think that JK Rowling can invent a world of wizards, witches, and all sorts of fantastical creatures, but has a such a huge problem with transgender people. The biggest irony of all? Rowling published “Troubled Blood” under a pseudonym, Robert Galbraith. Yup, a male name for a female author who denies the existence of transgender people. This could be a good thing for Rowling, though. Based on the swarms of angry fans, it sounds like this could be her first novel to barely sell.

Please respect our republishing guidelines - Click Here Here’s a story that the corporate press would rather you didn’t hear. Social media company Twitter has flagged videos of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden acting inappropriately with young girls. While gleefully reporting on every instance in which social media companies take action against President Donald Trump, it remains oddly silent on this particular development. Twitter Flags Biden Videos RT reported that C-Span footage showing Biden touching young girls was flagged as “child sexual exploitation” by Twitter. This flag was discovered during an online argument about the former vice president. I tried to respond with a video of evidence on how Biden interacts with women and little girls but Twitter flagged me for trying to post images of child molestation hahahahahahhaha. Guess twitter agrees with @jvgraz pic.twitter.com/tOIUMrcyAs — Joe Bidens Televised Shart (@koenigjake) September 12, 2020 During the conversation, Johnny Graz, a progressive activist, argued that Biden should be investigated for sexual assault. To bolster Graz’s argument, another Twitter user attempted to post a video compilation of Biden inappropriately touching young girls during photo ops. So that user, named Jake Koenig, posted a screenshot displaying Twitter’s message informing him that the post was flagged for “trying to post images of child molestation.” He wrote: “I tried to respond with a video of evidence on how Biden interacts with women and little girls but Twitter flagged me for trying to post images of child molestation hahahahahahhaha. Guess twitter agrees with @jvgrazpic.” Twitter not only marked the footage as child sexual exploitation but also banned the user’s account until he deleted the post. The video shows Biden touching lawmakers’ daughters and granddaughters. In parts of the footage, he can be seen leaning in close and whispering in their ears. Biden has been the subject of speculation over his behavior with young girls for years. There are even more videos showing him engaging in this type of behavior, sniffing the hair of young and adult females and placing his hands on their shoulders. Some women have levied more severe accusations against Biden, claiming he engaged in improper behavior with them. In March, Tara Reade, who served as one of his staffers when he was a senator, publicly accused him of sexually assaulting her in 1993. Not Worth Coverage? It appears that the corporate media have decided to give Biden the Obama treatment with this story. If the proverbial shoe were on the other foot, and Twitter had flagged a video featuring Trump in the same manner, there is no doubt that it would be splashed across every left-leaning news site. In fact, the Fourth Estate has exhibited a remarkable lack of curiosity regarding these types of allegations against Biden, despite its supposed support of the #MeToo movement. But this story only confirms what most already know: The press is intent on getting Biden into the Oval Office, even if it means sacrificing journalistic principles. Read more from Jeff Charles.
Please respect our republishing guidelines - Click Here Each week Liberty Nation straps on its Personal Protective Equipment and dives into the TwitterZone to bring you the biggest news, the most outlandish arguments, and the real Zeitgeist of what is taking place in the internet’s wildest frontier. Bickering and debate are not uncommon in media network interviews, especially in politics. So why is it that Joe Biden’s campaign team continues to flip flop on major issues and run from every challenge? A Fox News interview hosted by Bret Baier and featuring Joe Biden’s press secretary has been trending on Twitter. The results were disastrous for the Democrat candidate, who might do well to think about barring his staff member from future interviews with media outlets willing to ask more than soft-ball questions. TJ Ducklo appeared on Baier’s show Sept. 10 for an interview on the status of the Biden campaign. Bret Baier has been known not to go easy even when interviewing conservatives, and it was clear that Ducklo was not ready for his humiliation to trend on Twitter. From the start, Baier questioned Ducklo on what specifically Biden would have done to combat the Coronavirus response in January. Ducklo immediately went with the rehearsed soundbite campaign officials have regurgitated endlessly – that Trump is terrible, that the caseload and death count from COVID-19 is bad, and that Bob Woodward’s new book will surely end Trump’s legacy for good. Conveniently, the only and most important part missing from Ducklo’s spiel was about what Biden would have done differently in Trump’s shoes. After this deflection from Biden’s press secretary, Baier reminded Ducklo that Biden and his staff criticized Trump’s travel ban as a racist, xenophobic move, and asked him to clarify Biden’s stance on the travel ban. Ducklo’s incoherent short-circuiting eventually resulted in him swearing to send Baier “fact-checks” on Biden’s beliefs. Once again, Ducklo found himself incapable of answering the question presented to him. The final nail in the coffin for the interview came when Baier had the gall (sarcasm intended) to verify reports about Biden using teleprompters in interviews and Q&A sessions from the campaign. Do You Even Campaign, Bro? The press secretary’s outburst at this question was comical and sent Twitter ablaze with jokes about whether Ducklo was even on Team Biden. Immediately accusing Baier of being a Trump mouthpiece, Ducklo refused to confirm or deny the teleprompter allegations. Most poignantly, Baier gave up on trying to secure an answer, while viewers already knew the truth. TJ Ducklo The farcical interview performance sent waves of laughter throughout Twitter, with many leftists even outlandishly claiming that Ducklo could not have been from the Biden campaign with such weak responses. However, on a more serious note, this interview is yet another example of the liberal disconnect from media outlets not subservient to their cause. When unfriendly or even unbiased sources start asking the questions that threaten to expose Biden’s lack of mental fortitude or energy, the standard response is to call the questioner a mouthpiece for the Trump campaign or conservatism more broadly. If 2016 was any indication of the consequences of this disconnect, Democrats are in for a rude awakening if they continue merely to frame hard-hitting questions as “Republican talking points,” a phrase all too common throughout the Democratic presidential primaries. During his interview, Baier even mentioned that his questions would assuredly come up during the presidential debates, which Ducklo rejected and ignored. In the same way that Hillary Clinton was caught off guard by Chris Wallace’s unbiased questions on immigration and economic growth during the final presidential debate in 2016, Biden is going to be woefully unprepared for any similar treatment on September 29 – the date of the first Biden-Trump debate. ~ Read more from Jose Backer.
(golubovy/iStock/Getty Images Plus)It doesn’t take much to find yourself with a target on your back these days. NRPLUS MEMBER ARTICLE I n the last couple of days, I was caught in what is called a “Twitter sh**storm.” It started with a piece I read in the Guardian about Black Lives Matter demonstrations, and it ended, via Jean-Marie Le Pen, with the American-Dutch-Somali intellectual Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Let me explain from the beginning. Advertisement Eight days ago, in a piece titled “Nearly all Black Lives Matter protests are peaceful despite Trump narrative, report finds,” the Guardian reported that “the vast majority of the thousands of Black Lives Matter protests this summer have been peaceful, with more than 93% involving no serious harm to people or damage to property, according to a new report tracking political violence in the United States.” The fallacy inherent in this line of thinking should be obvious, but in case it isn’t, let’s apply the same logic to the 9/11 attacks: “On September, 11, 2001, almost all the airplanes in the sky reached their destinations safely, about 99.9 percent of all buildings in Manhattan remained undamaged, and most Manhattanites remained safe, just like their properties.” In the U.S., every day 7,600 people die from all kinds of causes: accidents, illnesses, murders. In the grand scheme of things, the number of people who died on 9/11 may be relatively low, but their deaths shook the West’s consciousness and completely changed our perception of the world. Everything was suddenly different, from how we go about protecting our nations from terrorism to how we say goodbye to our loved ones when they leave the house in the morning. The violence on the streets of America’s inner cities this summer has a had a similar kind of impact, if on a much smaller scale. Every business that has been destroyed by blind hate is a tiny 9/11 for the people who have worked for it, suffered for it, sweated for it. Advertisement The report on which the Guardian article was based was conceived by some academics at Princeton University. They examined 7,750 demonstrations that took place across the U.S. under the flag of Black Lives Matter between May 26 and August 22. Their conclusion was just as the Guardian said: 93 percent of the demonstrations were peaceful. Advertisement Do the math, and you find this means that 542 demonstrations during that three-month period were not peaceful. But to the report’s authors and the Guardian, this must have seemed beside the point: The phrase “despite Trump narrative” in the piece’s headline was what needed to be communicated; the misrepresentation of the underlying statistics was just a means to that end. And the gambit worked! I happened to listen to a radio program in the Netherlands, where I now live, and the participants did exactly what the Guardian and the Princeton researchers must have hoped: They used it as evidence that Trump’s narrative about the violence of the demonstrations was deceitful. After all, only 7 percent of the protests could be described as violent, and seven is almost equal to zero, isn’t it? Advertisement Naturally, by this point I was upset. So I did what one does when one is upset these days: I wrote a tweet. Translated from the original Dutch, it reads: “Just now on @NPORadio1, the message that in the US 93% of all BLM demos are peaceful. This is statistical juggling. 570 riots with violence on 220 locations brought misery for 1000s of people.” Alongside it, I linked to a short video of BLM protesters harassing people in Rochester, N.Y. Advertisement So far, so good. But I was worked up and felt another tweet forcing its way into my mind. The discussion was so laughable, the figures were so misleading, that I felt they warranted a bit of dark sarcasm. So I wrote it up and fired it off: “The Nazi occupation of The Netherlands was 99% peaceful. Did you ever think about this, you at @NPORadio1?” It wasn’t enough. I still was angry. So I made a third tweet: “The BLM demo’s were 93% peaceful, @NPORadio1 and @TomKleijnNL [a former Dutch correspondent in the U.S. who was a part of the radio discussion], and 93% of the buildings in the riot cities are still standing. Here’s a picture of a street in Kenosha; look carefully, only 5 buildings destroyed. This is all about nothing. Some wanted to have some fun. Trump lies.” At this point, I felt a bit better, having expressed how ridiculous I found the report and the coverage of it in properly pointed terms. But within minutes, I received some replies condemning me for downplaying the Nazi occupation. So I sent a fourth tweet: “If followers don’t understand ‘sarcasm’, please go someplace else. Definition: ‘Sarcasm is biting humor condemning exactly what it seems to praise.’” Advertisement I had no idea what would happen. I was soon to find out. A Dutchman teaching at the University of Georgia, a professor named Cas Mudde, had seen my Dutch tweets and evidently felt compelled to respond. He translated the last one, leaving out the crucial context of the second sentence with the tag of the radio station, and he added a line about Jean-Marie Le Pen. In so doing, he twisted my sarcastic invocation of the Nazi occupation into an endorsement: “Jean-Marie Le Pen: Holocaust was detail in Second World War. Leon de Winter: Nazi occupation of Netherlands was 99% peaceful.” It was a pretty low blow from Mudde, who had without a doubt seen the full chain of tweets and knew exactly what I had meant. Add that he also knows I am a Jew whose family was wiped out by the Nazis, and who thus despises Jean-Marie Le Pen, and his attempt to make me into some kind of neo-Nazi seems downright despicable. Inevitably, his tweet was retweeted. A wave of insults, condemnations, and misinterpretations washed over me. Mudde had touched off the “Twitter s**tstorm” I mentioned above, and I was feeling its full force. I’ll survive, of course. But if I had lived in the U.S. and held an academic position, I would have been chased from campus by angry crowds of students. If I had owned a business, it would have been destroyed by boycotts or outright violence. That’s how it works nowadays in America, thanks in no small part to ruthless leftist academics like Cas Mudde. While I was writing this, a friend asked me whether I’d ever had an encounter with Mudde before his recent attacks. I googled his and my names, and I found a four-year-old tweet he’d written about my friend Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the courageous and smart Somali activist and writer who now lives in the U.S. I had forgotten about this. Advertisement “O look, Germany now has a Hirshi [sic] Ali as well, ‘exotic woman’ who is allowed to spread prejudices on the basis of ‘expertise,’” he’d written, linking to an interview with a German Muslim woman who had published a book about violence by young Muslims. It is a disgusting tweet. One smells the hatred Mudde feels for this “exotic woman,” who, according to him, doesn’t have “expertise” in the way that he does, and makes a living spreading prejudices about female circumcision. Referring to the German writer as “A Hirshi Ali,” as if Ayaan were a certain type of fraud, only compounded the insult. I’d first read it a year later, in 2017, and replied: “Who is Cas Mudde? Under the mask of a multiculturalist, there is a leftist fascist and misogynist.” Reminding myself of this exchange brought Mudde’s motives into focus: The Twitter s**t storm he’d unleashed was his payback for my defense of Ayaan. And the way he’d mishandled my tweet proved my original point: Cas Mudde is a leftist fascist.
Following the attempted murder of two Los Angeles County deputies during an ambush-style attack yesterday, #BlueLivesMatter started trending. This perturbed Black Lives Matter “activists” nearly as much as the presence of law enforcement in general. As The Daily Wire reported on the horrific shooting of two police officers ambushed in Los Angeles yesterday. Two deputies with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department were shot Saturday as they sat in their patrol vehicle near a metro station in Compton, California, the department said Saturday evening. The deputies, one male and one female, were both shot “multiple times” and are currently in critical condition and undergoing surgery, according to the department. “Moments ago, 2 of our Sheriff Deputies were shot in Compton and were transported to a local hospital. They are both still fighting for their lives, so please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. We will update this thread with information as it becomes available,” said the department Saturday evening. Half an hour later, the department provided an update: “Update: One male deputy and one female deputy were ambushed as they sat in their patrol vehicle. Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition. They are both currently undergoing surgery. The suspect is still at large.” That’s bad enough, but the fact that Black Lives Matter “activists” tried to storm the hospital where the officers were being treated is even more hideous. But to top it all off, various leftists took to Twitter to take over the #BlueLivesMatter hashtag with the worst vitriol imaginable. #BlueLivesMatter The fact that liberals are taking this hashtag and making fun of it proves they don't really care about lives at all. Unlike the criminals they glorify, these police officers were actually innocent. Liberals are disgusting pieces of shit. — McKayla J (@McKaylaRoseJ) September 13, 2020 The radicals in Black Lives Matter, Antifa, mainstream media, and the Democratic Party are so desperate to harm law enforcement, they’ll say the most hideous things in public. It’s disgusting. #BlueLivesMatter COVID-19 may take down an independent news outlet Nobody said running a media site would be easy. We could use some help keeping this site afloat. We hear two things every presidential election year. The first thing is that it’s “the election of our lifetimes.” The second thing is, “it’s the economy, stupid.” The first one is more true than it’s ever been in modern history. The second one is actually incorrect for the first time in modern history. Yes, the economy is important as it always is, but more Americans this year will be deciding their votes based on a completely different perspective. This year, many will be deciding based on their perspective of control. This manifests in different ways. The Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots are about control. These “activists” want to control the narrative and shift the conversation, any conversation, to always be about their demands. Some Americans truly desire the types of controls these “activists” are demanding. They want to be told what to do in an effort to maintain their social justice credibility. Others want the freedom to drive down a highway with a reasonable expectation that “protesters” aren’t causing mayhem and affecting people’s lives by blocking the roads. Another obvious element of control pertains to the coronavirus. Some people want everyone else to be mandated to wear face masks and social distance at all times and in all situations (other than Black Lives Matter protests, of course). Others want the freedom to open up the economy, send our kids to school, and live without face diapers. On September 11, President Trump marked the day by retweeting a video by Samantha Marika. In the video, which we discussed thoroughly in the latest episode of the NOQ Report podcast, Marika makes a plea to people to open their eyes and stop buying into the mainstream media narratives about President Trump. She also called out Democrats and NeverTrump Republicans for making predictions that never came true through the President’s first term. Thank You Samantha. The “Cuties” debacle is a clear indicator that the entertainment giant knows what it’s doing and simply doesn’t care. Democrats are attacking @TulsiGabbard because she spoke out against child sex trafficking. Let that sink in for a minute! — Mike Coudrey (@MichaelCoudrey) September 12, 2020 As The Blaze reported, even IMDB is getting in on the defense of “Cuties.” It should tell you something that troll image board 4chan banned screenshots from the TRAILER of the movie because they were so sexually explicit, but Netflix has chosen to air the whole movie. What everyone’s missing from the ActBlue ‘unemployed’ donor scandal Action Fund President John Pudner: “We found it took other vendors only a matter of hours to switch their system to allow verification of donations and thus prevent the possibility of illegal foreign money being moved into campaigns. Choosing to use an untraceable system has a higher cost in terms of the risk of credit card fraud and also tends to incur higher bank fees. And this untraceable system allows someone with a gift card to make donations in anyone’s name, even if that person never actually made that donation, or even if that person doesn’t exist at all.” 48.4% of the Democrats’ ActBlue donors last year were allegedly unemployed. By comparison, Republican-affiliated WinRed only listed 4%, which happened to be the national unemployment rate at the time, of their donors as unemployed. While everyone seems focused on the risk of foreign donations, I pointed out that it’s really the rich domestic donors who should be concerning us the most. Regardless of whether it’s foreign or domestic entities piling in donations under fake names, it’s illegal. #BlueLivesMatter hashtag following LA ambush gets desecrated by radical leftists As The Daily Wire reported, there was a horrific shooting of two police officers ambushed in Los Angeles yesterday. Meanwhile, radical progressives should be concerned that if he wins, their movement will essentially be over. The Oscars have just announced major changes in regards to their diversity requirements and the internet has a lot to say. What Was Announced? When it comes to Oscar nominations and eligibility, the award show has been targeted in the past for not focusing on diversity, inclusion and representation. But things are on their way towards some sort of change. Change starts now. We've announced new representation and inclusion standards for Best Picture eligibility, beginning with the 96th #Oscars. Read more here: https://t.co/qdxtlZIVKb pic.twitter.com/hR6c2jb5LM — The Academy (@TheAcademy) September 9, 2020 Beginning in 2024, inclusion will be a requirement to be considered for Best Picture. This decision comes five years after the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag trended on Twitter and caused major controversy. The Academy announced on Tuesday that the Best Picture nominations will have to meet a certain criteria in order to be considered. Don’t believe any hot-take that calls this affirmative action. These rules are such a LOW BAR if a film hasn’t met them it is doing nothing to represent this country and absolutely should not be Oscar-eligible. #OscarsSoWhite will be for the foreseeable future. https://t.co/7mFLOqWZ8J — AJ Christian (@drajchristian) September 9, 2020 What Social Media Users Had To Say… While many questioned this decision, their curiosity was met with an answer. The organization explained in a statement that the goal of this verdict is to “encourage equitable representation on and off screen in order to better reflect the diversity of the movie-going audience.” Social media users and public figures have already begun to share their opinion and it’s safe to say that not everyone is happy about this concept. And not for the reasons that many are expecting. #Oscars hoping that playing the race and gender cards will make people want to watch rich Hollywood types give each other awards for movies no one's actually watched. When Marvel wins an Oscar, call me. Otherwise, you still suck.#WednesdayWisdom#truthhttps://t.co/PsQfFnevOi — Minerva Neryse (@minervaneryse) September 9, 2020 Celebrities Speak Out Kirstie Alley slammed the decision by tweeting: “This is a disgrace to artists everywhere…can you imagine telling Picasso what had to be in his f*cking paintings. You people have lost your minds.” She continued to explain that diversity and inclusion should be taught to children and therefore simply become second nature. The fact that this type of representation is now being “forced” or necessary has been seen as unnatural by countless people, including Alley. Diversity and inclusion should be taught, taught so well and so naturally and genuinely that it becomes second nature to our children. — Kirstie Alley (@kirstiealley) September 9, 2020 Others, on the other hand, are claiming that Alley has missed the point and purpose of these new requirements. She clearly doesn’t get it… the academy isn’t really forcing anyone to DO Anything. She’s saying this like people are OWED an Oscar nomination. You can still make your own art, you just don’t meet criteria for a certain award so stfu. https://t.co/RTejYFkX2i — Julian Bass (@thejulianbass) September 9, 2020 The Arguments All in all, it seems as though the internet is split. Some made comments such as “positive discrimination is still discrimination” will others celebrated the idea that the Oscars are finally moving in the right direction. People criticising the Oscars new inclusion/diversity rules because it destroys "the freedom of an artist". Please. Stop it. pic.twitter.com/4elFfD9P8d — Jo Ferreira #BlackLivesMatter (@joheartsart) September 9, 2020 Many are making the point that it feels strange to control art and indirectly make creators meet a certain criteria. In fact, it’s already been announced that films must meet at least two of four benchmarks. If they do not, that particular film is simply ineligible for Best Picture. This is stupid and filled with hypocrisy. So, hiring diverse actors is not for their talent and acting but just to get nominated and maybe win an Oscar. Instead of actually doing sth about racism, they did this. https://t.co/2zFqVtROzh — #D10S🎗️ (@_ItsKarim) September 9, 2020 Requirements Explained CNN explains that the criteria includes “featuring actors from underrepresented groups in significant roles or accounting for at least 30% of the cast; similar criteria in terms of those working on the film behind the scenes; a significant commitment to paid apprenticeships, internships and career development; and significant representation among the teams devoted to marketing, publicity and distribution.” Many social media users are now referring to Best Picture as the “Diversity & Inclusion Award” and similar variations of the sort. Others are calling this particular decision a form of censorship and as a result, have vowed to not tune in to the show in the future. The Oscars have announced diversity standards for their Best Picture award. It’s no longer about the talent in the Best Picture, but the Most Woke picture. — Darren Grimes (@darrengrimes_) September 9, 2020 People of color have come forward and openly expressed their concern with this decision. This is ridiculous. There should not be ANY standards. As a latino, I do not like this pityness. — Adam Dynamite 🇺🇸 (@BrewCity1987) September 9, 2020 Ok.I'm a middle eastern bi woman and I'm saying this is ridiculous.we want representation not because they HAVE TO , but 'cuz diversity is normal and realistic . Instead of this they just should not steal awards from good movies to other white ones. — mythical (@queenNnre) September 9, 2020 Within hours of this big announcement, the inclusivity requirements for Best Picture has become a political conflict. Fights have broken out across the internet and many are beginning to choose sides. And despite the mixed reactions, it does not seem as though the Academy is going to change their minds about this. With many deciding that they would no longer be tuning in to the Oscars awhile ago, this decision is no longer important or relevant news to them anyway. And for those boycotting the show, their reasons that this news is just another ridiculous aspect of it continue to be shared. For example, another major point that has been commented on is the fact that the awards are “rigged” anyway. This whole Oscar thing is extra stupid because they were rigged anyway. They could have just pretended to select a "diverse" film without all the ridiculous rules on submittals 🙄 — Joan d'Arc (@Born4ThisMoment) September 9, 2020 The Oscars Drama Continues… Is this criteria going to evoke change for the right reasons? The answer to that question is not only incredibly difficult to answer, but also quite controversial. It’s important to note that this change will not come all at once. These rules will be put in place gradually over the next four years. However, by 2024, the criteria will be required. There are predictable comments regarding this announcement while others are making some convincing arguments. This seems as though it will be an ongoing conversation on social media. Massively stupid. The Oscars will become meaningless. It won't take long before nobody even wants one. Audiences will decline, as an Oscar will be taken by many as a warning of movies NOT to bother to watch. . https://t.co/8zqM6HF5Tr — Godnose (@Godnose) September 9, 2020 More Change is Needed Many industries and franchises, such as Bachelor Nation, have made a point to become more diverse this year following the despicable acts of racial injustice we have all seen. However, many think it’s just a little too late. All of these changes have been labeled by social media users as “forced” and “disingenuous” despite what any executives say or how they try to defend their decisions. Over the years, the Oscars have lost a significant amount of their audience for a variety of reasons. And despite their apparent progress, it seems as though The Academy has some more work to do. In regards to their most recent diversity requirements, it’s unclear if this change will ultimately bring some of those viewers back or simply continue to push them away. Only time will tell. Will you be watching the Oscars following this announcement? Featured image by Jakob Owens and Joshua Hoehne on Unsplash.
Twitch streamer, SweetAnita, is fearful about her online stalker and she’s not the only one. Now she is asking her fans for help using #stopstalking after feeling like the police aren’t doing anything to protect her. #StopStalking Video SweetAnita uploaded a video on Monday called, “How Can I Stop My Stalker? Please Help!” which quickly got the attention of her subscribers as well as her fellow streamers. [embedded content] In this video, she said that she has gone to the police several times but didn’t feel like they took her seriously. She continued by stating, “The police response has been incredibly underwhelming. After he assaulted me, I had a witness. I had a lot of evidence and the police did nothing. They eventually felt pressured to do something after everyone was kind enough to start tagging the police on Twitter and kind of getting upset with the UK police for not acting.” Many other Twitch streamers have come forward to share their experiences with online stalkers in her video. SweetAnita SweetAnita is a popular Twitch streamer who has been very open to her viewers about the stalker she has been dealing with. Back in July, SweetAnita posted a tweet that didn’t quite sit well with anyone. If anything happens to me, I really hope that I'm the last canary in the coal mine. The law needs to change, No job should have such a high risk of rape, assault or death, especially not live streaming. — Sweet Anita (@Tweet4nita) July 14, 2020 The Twitch streamer shared an article talking about women in the UK who are killed every year by stalkers and domestic abusers even after reporting them to the police. The article stated, “Our data reveals that 55 women were killed in the three years between 2015 and 2017 despite reporting their killers to police for threatening behavior prior to their deaths.” Anita’s tweet stating this isn’t the first time she has been stalked…and it won’t be the last. The sad thing is I have had this happen before, even before streaming, and I know he won't be the last. I'm exasperated. No matter how extreme the situation, the response has always been the same. They log it and do nothing, and I feel helpless. — Sweet Anita (@Tweet4nita) July 14, 2020 In a Twitch Stream video, Anita claims that outside of harassing her online, he has also stalked her at home. In this video, she continues by stating that he has slept outside her house and physically assaulted her. Referencing a time when she had to run away from him after he followed her to a shop. XChocoBars XChocoBars is another Twitch Streamer who has communicated her feelings about her online stalker of over two years. She tweeted out a morbid tweet that had fans concerned for her safety. I often think about how I will prob die by the hands of my stalker and no one can do anything about it until it really happens 😞 I know it’s heavy to talk about but if it does happen I hope my death will mean something and help protect other creators from similar situations — Janet 🍫 (@xChocoBars) August 24, 2020 This fan couldn’t imagine dealing with that situation. i've always had a fear of being watched/being stalked, i cant imagine what you're dealing with. the constant fear of someone watching your every move. horrifying. — Sophos (@SophosSavant) August 25, 2020 While others express their anger with the system. I don't understand. Stalking is a federal crime under the criminal law of the U.S. They should be able to do something or they just don't want to do their job. — Paul (@IForgotToWipe) August 25, 2020 In SweetAnita’s video, XChocoBars explains her stalker has made multiple accounts to attack her character. She feels bad talking to any guys because she wants to protect them. She spoken to lawyers to see if anything can be done but they’re expensive. The streamer stating, “I’ve given up a long time ago um I think– think I gave up when the police or the authorities just like said they couldn’t do much um because that’s who’s supposed to protect us you know.” Twitter user, Disguised Toast, tweeted apologetically about her situation. Janet has been dealing with this for over 2 years now. She has gone to the authorities, spoken to lawyers – responses always boils down to: “We can’t do anything unless he does commit a crime” despite the overwhelming amount of evidence. Sorry you’re still dealing with this. — Disguised Toast (@DisguisedToast) August 25, 2020 While being interviewed for SweetAnita’s video, XChocoBars expressed her concern in making this information public saying, “I really do hope this video helps because I also do worry and know that like this might fuel their–their I don’t know creepy I don’t even know the word for it but if it will like help twitch or open the eyes for other people then it’s worth it.” Destiny Destiny, who’s also part of the Twitch community, talks about how he’s been dealing with these issues since 2016. He has received death threats as well as threats to his family. The streamer said people have even gone as far as sending false tips to the FBI about him. After going to the authorities several times, Destiny eventually gave up. He goes on to say, ”Second and third time I talked to the FBI, I tried to be a little bit more candid about what I did because it seems like as soon as they figure out like what I do for work they just don’t care anymore.” He finished by saying the conversations didn’t go anywhere. He felt that they didn’t care at all. Online Stalkers Online stalkers aren’t anything new. Several users have come forward to share their encounters with stalkers. The question is what are the police doing about these situations? The Twitch streamers feel like there is nothing that can be done about the situation. Many explaining they can’t see the police doing anything about it unless something happens to them. SweetAnita explained she has gotten a restraining order but her stalker breaches it all the time. He stated this publicly last stream. Last time he left messages like this he sat outside my house waiting for me to come out all day, then followed me to a shop. When I asked if he was armed he silently smirked and then chased me. Two men had to grab him so that I could escape. pic.twitter.com/AK8HZpJoTs — Sweet Anita (@Tweet4nita) July 14, 2020 Charlie D’Amelio, a famous TikTok star, has also had multiple threats from online stalkers. Her family quickly hired security after receiving numerous threats and even pictures of someone standing outside her house. An Instagram influencer, Lovely Peaches, posted a video saying she paid a 30-year-old man to rape the 16-year-old influencer. SweetAnita finishes the video by saying she loves making content but she shouldn’t have to lose her life for it. She’s asking her viewers to get involved using the hashtag #stopstalking. The response has been overwhelmingly positive as viewers show their support. Do you think the police can do more to help in these situations? Should platforms be held accountable for taking proper precautions to help prevent this from happening?
September 11th is usually a solemn day in America, but this year Twitter is shaking things up. Early this morning, the hashtag “#AllBuildingsMatter” started trending, a mocking of the All Lives Matter movement that was created in response to the Black Lives Matter movement. Things quickly heated up on Twitter as users were quick to defend and attack this new hashtag. Why is #AllBuildingsMatter controversial? When we say it we're including 9/11 and the Twin Towers. Everyone matters. pic.twitter.com/SKSJ8PTRLB — Justin AKA Wade Krueger (@WadeKrueger1) September 11, 2020 Usually, Americans come together to mourn the lives lost during the 2001 attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, an event that has come to be considered a great American tragedy. Images of the World Trade Center on fire, videos of the ultimate collapse, and the words “never forget” circulated social media for the past 18 years. Stories of lives lost and of the heroic first responders are always told, memorializing all those impacted. This was one of the few days a year that Americans seemed to come together, to put differences aside and stand a community. Not this year, though. “#AllBuildingsMatter” has been one of the top five trends on Twitter all day. Twitter has a statement at the top of the tag that reads, “As people commemorate the anniversary of of the September 11 attacks, some are linking the tragedy to the numerous deaths of Black men and women at the hands of police, suggesting that the outrage or heartbreak felt in regard to the 9/11 terrorist attacks should, in some way, carry over to tragedies of police brutality. To drive the point home, saying ‘all lives matter’ when another Black person is killed by police feels akin to saying ‘all building matter’ in response to the destruction of the World Trade Center.” People from all sides of the political spectrum are weighing in on the issue. A few House Candidates spoke up against the trend. Douglas Tuman, a Republican candidate from New York, wrote, “I wake up on the 19th anniversary of 9/11 and Twitter’s number two trending hashtag is #AllBuildingsMatter. I have never been more disgusted in my life.” I wake up on the 19th anniversary of 9/11 and Twitter’s number two trending hashtag is #AllBuildingsMatter. I have never been more disgusted in my life. — Douglas Tuman (@ElectTuman) September 11, 2020 Errol Webber, a Republican from California, wrote, “The number two trend in the country is #AllBuildingsMatter. Twitter is allowing this to trend with only 4,400 tweets but suppressed the #CancelNetflix hashtag. We are dealing with evil.” The number two trend in the country is #AllBuildingsMatter. We are dealing with evil. pic.twitter.com/l909FYayWd — Errol Webber For Congress (CA-37) (@ErrolWebber) September 11, 2020 Other users tweeted in favor of the hashtag. Talbert Swan, a bishop from Canada, said, “To the entire miracle whip posse being all solemn and somber today and tweeting #NeverForget… remember that the next time you feel like telling Black people to “FORGET ABOUT” or “GET OVER” slavery, lynching, brutalization, dehumanization, and oppression. #AllBuildingsMatter” To the entire miracle whip posse being all solemn and somber today and tweeting #NeverForget… remember that the next time you feel like telling Black people to “FORGET ABOUT” or “GET OVER” slavery, lynching, brutalization, dehumanization, and oppression. #AllBuildingsMatter — Bishop Talbert Swan (@TalbertSwan) September 11, 2020 Some questioned how this hashtag was more offensive than the All Lives Matter trend. Both the terrorist attack and police brutality are tragedies, so some felt that it was a valid response. Someone please explain to me how #AllBuildingsMatter is more offensive than:– All Lives Matter– "Suckers and Losers"– 190,000 lives lost because "I like to play it down." Focus the selective outrage on your OWN silence and hypocrisy. — BrooklynDad_Defiant! (@mmpadellan) September 11, 2020 The people are fuming about #AllBuildingsMatter 19 years after 9/11?….. Now imagine how we feel with our brothers and sisters blood fresh and bodies cold on the streets and yall screaming #Alllivesmatter ???? So, yeah. — jiggaman (@jiggyjayy2) September 11, 2020 A few supporters of “All Buildings Matter” threw frequent reactions to Black Lives Matter back in the face of those distressed about today’s trend. They took a more comedic approach, really making light of the situation. Maybe if the Twin Towers just followed the Planes orders, it wouldn’t be a problem 🤷#AllBuildingsMatter pic.twitter.com/GhY3wS0Ort — Flight’s Burner (@FlightReacts__) September 11, 2020 Not every supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement was in favor of the “All Buildings Matter” joke. Some felt that the September 11 attacks were too important to regard in this manner. Although I don’t agree with the #AllBuildingsMatter hashtag because 9/11 was terrible but also a moment where America came together, I’ll leave this here. pic.twitter.com/INigXLp3iu — ™️Marcus (@TheMisterMarcus) September 11, 2020 TV personality Swaggy C tweeted a few times about this trend. He said that he supported the Black Lives Matter, but also recognizes September 11 for the tragedy that it was. His biggest issue was the differences in reactions to “#AllLivesMatter” and “#AllBuildingsMatter.” I’m a believer in BLM AND Never Forgot 9/11…. I just hate the hypocrisy in people who say All Lives Matter yet wanna remember 9/11… it makes no sense. BLM & 9/11 🤞🏾 RIP to your cousin and I hope you have a good day today remembering him!! — SWAGGY C (@SwaggyCTV) September 11, 2020 For reference, this is a standard “#AllLivesMatter” tweet. Pretty similar points to what people are saying in the “AllBuildingsMatter” tag. Facts are not racist. This is from the super liberal https://t.co/TAZ5qOMMjW. Sadly blacks are far more likely to commit violent crime, which means more interactions with police and more potential to be killed by them. #WhiteLivesMatter #BlackLivesMatter #AllLivesMatter. pic.twitter.com/5dVDSiv4fg — Carmine Sabia (@CarmineSabia) June 3, 2020 As always in America, everything politicized has some strong supporters, protestors, and people who are floating around the middle. The Twitter war rages on, massing over 142,000 tweets so far. Each side is completely convinced they’re right, but are either of them? I guess not every question can have a clear answer, as today’s Twitter debate has shown.
In the past, ‘Big Brother’ has faced criticism for bullying and racist behavior by cast members; however, this season’s episodes include moments where houseguests discuss racial injustice and other social issues to portray the ‘Big Brother’ house as a welcoming and inclusive environment. “No matter what stage in life you are at, make sure you have the courage to speak up and say the right things.” #BBKaysar and #BBDavonne share a powerful moment in tonight’s episode of #BB22. pic.twitter.com/TlVZUcoIaQ — Big Brother (@CBSBigBrother) August 30, 2020 However, production has failed to show the bullying that has taken place this year. ‘Big Brother’ is a reality show competition where 16 people live in a house together for a couple of months to compete for a half a million dollars through physical and mental competitions. Each week, one housemate is voted off the show by their peers, and the last person left in the house wins the cash prize. Currently, the show features an all-star cast of returning players from previous seasons. The houseguests are under 24 hour surveillance through live feeds that anyone with a CBS All Access subscription can view at any time, but fans were outraged by what they saw this past Wednesday. Background Ian Terry is considered a legend in the ‘Big Brother’ world, as he won the 14th season of the show – beating one of the best players of all time, former winner Dan Gheesling. Terry is known for his intelligence as he is a strategic and analytical player. As Terry returned for his second season of ‘Big Brother,’ he decided to be more open with the houseguests and public about living on the spectrum. During a casual conversation with a few houseguests, Terry explained how previous viewers and houseguests expressed their annoyance with his rocking movements that helped soothe him. With many of the current houseguests in shock that he has autism, Terry clarified that living on the spectrum does not define him as he lives a normal life with a great job, family, and girlfriend. One thing you can take from #BBIan is that YOU define who you are and will be in this world. #BB22 pic.twitter.com/uw5n7IlwoJ — Big Brother (@CBSBigBrother) August 13, 2020 On national television, his fellow houseguests seem to be accepting of him, but from what viewers saw on Wednesday, that does not seem to be the case. What Happened? On a video from the live feeds, Memphis Garrett, Dani Briones, Nicole Franzel, Christmas Abott, and Cody Calafiore are seen mocking and laughing about Terry’s condition. The video starts off by Briones calling Terry a “roach,” and Garrett then refers to Terry as “a totally different human being.” Although Franzel interjects and says that Terry is now “confident,” Garrett claims that his confidence is “creepy.” As a bad joke, Briones tells Memphis that she will tell Terry to sit at the end of Garrett’s bed to scare him, and Garrett says if he does that he will “kick him in his teeth” and will excuse it as an “accident” as he will say he thought Terry was a ghost from ‘The Shining.’ Dani is really referring to Ian as a roach.Has she walked past a mirror lately?? Looking like a Charles Manson follower 🙄 Memphis is a scumbag #bb22 pic.twitter.com/265n6zB4Xs — 🐲𝕷𝖞𝖓🐉 (@LyndaShonubi) September 10, 2020 The bullying does not end there. Garrett goes on to imitate how Terry walks and talks, and says that he acts “weird.” Garrett, Briones, and Calafiore go on to discuss how they often do not understand Terry when he talks as he constantly uses big words and discusses random facts. Memphis, Donato, Franzel and Cody still making fun of Ian. Donato encourage Memphis to interrogate him.#bb22 pic.twitter.com/IrLH1yquCO — 🦈 DumpTrump 🦈 (@squalo) September 10, 2020 On a different occasion, Garrett mocks Terry’s rocking movements to Briones, Franzel, and Abott as he says that Terry stresses him out as he has “nightmares” of Terry’s rocking. When Garrett leaves, Briones says she agrees with Garrett and that Franzel is laughing because she does too. Abott also chimes in. So These Cunts @nicole_franzel @danidONAT0 @christmasabbott That’s Right I Said It , Making Fun Of Ian’s Autism Spectrum Disorder Is Another New Low For @CBSBigBrother #BB22 #Austism #IanTerry #NicoleFranzel #DanieleDonato #ChristmasAbbott pic.twitter.com/chcApZoHxu — TruthAndSarcasm (@TruthAndSarcasm) September 9, 2020 Later, Briones confides in Franzel furthering her agreement with Garrett as she says Terry’s constant rocking “stresses her out” and Franzel agrees. Dani & Nicole F were making fun of Ian's 'rocking' due to his autism which says freaks them out & can't look at him. Memphis described it like he is in a horror movie. Absolutely discusting behavior by these #MeanGirls Memphis & Christmas – shame on you all🤬😡 #BB22 pic.twitter.com/zMnYeh0cV1 — Real Talk Radio (@RealTalkRadio8) September 11, 2020 While these conversations are happening, Terry’s close friend and former ‘Big Brother’ winner, Nicole Franzel, is laughing and agreeing with what has been said, instead of protecting her good friend. It is not a secret that Terry and Franzel are friends outside of the house as they directly said it on national television and made a pact to take each other to the final two – though Franzel also has a final two deal with Cody Calafiore. Fans’ Response These videos from the live feeds have outraged fans, and they are calling out the houseguests involved. Ian opened up to them about his autism. Ian told them how people last season made fun of him and how it hurt. Ian told them that kids like him watch him and look up to him. Ian explained how his stemming helps him. And they still make fun of him for it. TRASH #BB22 — CBS Reality Stan 🦖🌚 💕 (@Les971) September 9, 2020 memphis making fun of Ian and then Dani/Nicole laughing about it makes me feel a whole new level of anger. please someone put me in a room with them so i can beat tf out of them. that is NOT okay, NOT funny. Janelle Pierzina and Kaysar Ridha are known as a power duo in multiple seasons of ‘Big Brother,’ but were both evicted early from this season as many saw them as a threat. At home, Pierzina and Ridha were outraged with the houseguests’ behavior towards Terry as they were close to him in the house. Riddha even helped Terry’s game by exposing people before he left. #BBKaysar gave the Houseguests a speech to remember on last night's #BB22! 😳 pic.twitter.com/RndSXP2sOk — Big Brother (@CBSBigBrother) September 4, 2020 Pierzina and Ridha took to Twitter to express their anger over the cast’s treatment of Terry. Absolutely disgusted! https://t.co/KODcFV1cZ5 — Janelle Pierzina (@JanellePierzina) September 10, 2020 Instead of laughing they should be standing up for Ian. He has a disability 😐 https://t.co/4Vwpusq4Wv — Janelle Pierzina (@JanellePierzina) September 10, 2020 Thank you for posting this. People on the spectrum are some of the best our society has to offer. I’m mortified by the actions of these Big Brother houseguests. Before leaving I reminded Ian to never let anyone laugh at him. Ever. Period. #BB22 https://t.co/fPmNRDgXWI — Kaysar Ridha (@KaysarRidha) September 10, 2020 Inside the BB house reflects society’s failures when it comes to our handling of diversity. We could use a lesson in empathy & awareness. Ppl who are neurodiverse & on the spectrum should be protected not trashed. I have zero tolerance on this issue #BB22 https://t.co/XFQjh3uMYh — Kaysar Ridha (@KaysarRidha) September 10, 2020 Also, Ridha and his fellow housemate Nicole Anthony went on Instagram Live to discuss the houseguests’ insensitivity toward Terry. YES we want to protect Ian but we know he’s a grown adult. For me, this is about the thousands of viewers who are also on the spectrum, who have looked up to Ian and thought “I can do that too!” https://t.co/7wCWBr9MJF — Kat Dunn (@itskathryndunn) September 10, 2020 Memphis is talking about kicking the teeth in of Ian. The same man who asked the DR if he could give up his HOH letter (if he wins this week) to let Cody (whose grandfather just passed away) get a letter from his family. Despicable.#BB22 https://t.co/hbeBaK1c8o — Ovi Kabir (@TheOviKabir) September 10, 2020 Memphis is a real piece of shit for the way he talks about Ian and Ian’s autism. Inexcusable. #BB22 — Andy Herren (@AndyHerren) September 10, 2020 Consequences The houseguests may be isolated from the outside world, but they are receiving some serious consequences. Because of her participation in this situation, Franzel has lost multiple sponsorships including from Olay, Winery Chateau Ste. Michelle, and BlanQuil. He tells her the only time he was like "what" was the BULLHORN and BB switches cams. pic.twitter.com/cx54c360hW — 🅱🅱 🅿🅸🆂🆂🅴🅳 (@BB_Pissed) September 11, 2020 Many ‘Big Brother’ viewers may be unaware of what has been going on as CBS failed to show the houseguests’ inappropriate behavior on Thursday night’s episode allowing many to still idolize these players. Only those who are active on social media or the live feeds have seen these cast members’ true colors. What are your thoughts on the situation? What do you think production should do to condemn bullying on the show?
President Trump has announced that he will not be extending the deadline for the sale of TikTok to an American company. The United States government has stated that they will officially not be extending the deadline of September 20th. This decision has caused both panic and anger for TikTok users and influencers on social media. It also creates urgency for companies to make negotiations faster in order to stop the app from being banned in the U.S. If they ban @TikTok_us, I’ll stop paying taxes. — Step Ma (@shumythemoney) September 11, 2020 As a result of this announcement, social media users are already discovering and sharing a hack to keep the app even if it were to be “banned.” As long as users have the app deleted and updated to its latest version prior to it being banned, Youtubers are trying to expose tricks and a hack for keeping the platform. [embedded content] Before Trump boarded Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews, he said: “We’ll see what happens. It’ll either be closed up or they’ll sell it.” BREAKING REPORT: Trump say's There'll be NO EXTENSION of the TikTok deadline… "We'll either close up TikTok in this country for security reasons or it'll be sold… — Chuck Callesto (@ChuckCallesto) September 11, 2020 Due to the sale’s complexity, this deadline is a bit rushed for companies to purchase it. Some analysts previously predicted that the deadline would most likely be extended in order for a successful transaction to occur. However, Trump’s administration has made it clear that the consequences of keeping it any longer outweigh the app’s benefits. In an executive order shared in August, Trump stated that ByteDance, the company that currently owns TikTok, may cause damage that would impact “the national security of the United States.” The President originally announced that he was going to ban the app back in July of this year. Since then, it has been amongst his main priorities for the country before the November election. This has caused some anger and backlash due to the importance of keeping the current global pandemic under control seemingly taking a back-burner. Isn’t tiktok supposed to be banned on the 15th?? Idk if it’ll actually happen bc trump lies a LOT but still what — ✰ ella ✰ (@hollyolly23) September 11, 2020 WATCH: 'I am not extending deadlines,' says President Trump on a sale of TikTok's U.S. assets https://t.co/wqWyLAppvC pic.twitter.com/o92rJvnYQO — Reuters Business (@ReutersBiz) September 11, 2020 TikTok has sued the Trump administration for what it said was a “heavily politicized” executive order. In a post announcing the case, TikTok said: “We far prefer constructive dialogue over litigation. But with the Executive Order threatening to bring a ban on our US operations — eliminating the creation of 10,000 American jobs and irreparably harming the millions of Americans who turn to this app for entertainment, connection, and legitimate livelihoods that are vital especially during the pandemic — we simply have no choice.” Microsoft is a potential buyer for the platform. However, it is unclear whether or not the two companies will be able to reach a deal by this closely approaching deadline. hurry up and buy tiktok — Kristi ✰ (@kristimathura) September 11, 2020 TikTok continues to grow in popularity and the idea of it going away is difficult for a lot of influencers and users. Many have taken to other apps such as Twitter to complain and express their hope for it to remain in The United States. TikTok is so good, and I’ll be sad if Trump really does ban it / if they have to sell to someone who will screw it up 🙁 — Zain (@calizoned) September 9, 2020 During the first few months of this year, the app was downloaded 315 million times. It currently has over 2 billion downloads around the world. Many have already referenced it as a “cultural phenomenon.” @tiktok_us please don't go, we need you😭😭😭 #savetiktok — Decarol (@itsbabydiva) September 11, 2020 The app being a “threat” to national security has caused major debate online. However, cybersecurity experts said its risk is “highly theoretical.” Also, they confirmed, according to CNN, that there is “no evidence to suggest that the app’s user data has been compromised by Chinese intelligence.” @tiktok_us For the record, if Trump’s stupid ban takes place you’re staying on my phone, and there’s nothing that orange man can do about it #savetiktok — Chris Green (@ChrisGreenJ) September 11, 2020 According to CNBC, Microsoft and Walmart have officially teamed up for a potential deal. However, a third company, Oracle, has also made bids on the application. We now have 4 days for Microsoft to buy TikTok again. Thanks Trump! If Tiktok gets banned, will all of our content disappear?!? Thank you! 😳😳😳@TikTokSupport #savetiktok #TikTok — Rob Flaska (Robs 🐜) (@RobFlaska) September 11, 2020 It seems as though yet another social media platform has been political. The deadline, however, may be able to be pushed back by the courts. This decision will only be able to be made after they consider ByteDance’s arguments that the executive orders regarding TikTok are illegal. Will you miss TikTok if it gets banned? The popular social media platform seems to have an unpredictable future when it comes to its future status in The United States. A deadline extension may be the only way for it to continue its existence.
Twitter said the mailbox misinformation did not violate the company’s updated civic integrity policy, which was used to fact-check President Trump in May.
