City of Louisville Agrees To Pay Breonna Taylor’s Family $12 Million

The city of Louisville, Kentucky, has reached a settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit brought by Breonna Tayor’s family. The New York Times reports that the city agreed to pay the family $12 million. It was expected that the settlement would be a multi-million dollar agreement. Taylor, a Black woman, was killed by white police officers as they executed a “no-knock” warrant in March.  The Times reports that along with the settlement, the largest in Louisville’s history, the city agreed to implement a series of policing reforms.  Sam Aguilar, the Taylor family’s attorney, told CNN, “The city’s response, in this case, has been delayed, and it’s been frustrating, but the fact that they’ve been willing to sit down and talk significant reform was a step in the right direction and hopefully a turning point.” Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT, was shot after her boyfriend mistook the officers executing the warrant and fired his handgun at them. The officers returned fire and struck Tayler, which led to her death. Her death sparked months of protests against police brutality and racism. Additionally, the city council passed a law that bans “no-knock” search warrants. A grand jury has also been convened to investigate the shooting, though there have been no announcements from the proceedings thus far.

Oregon Republican Lawmakers React to Arrest of Dem House Speaker’s Aide in Portland Riots

A photojournalist reacts as riot police fire tear gas in Portland, Ore., September 5, 2020. (Carlos Barria/Reuters)Republicans in the Oregon legislature are accusing Democrats of sanctioning “lawlessness” after the arrest of a top aide to the Democratic Oregon House speaker this month during protests that devolved into riots in downtown Portland. Kristina Narayan, who serves as legislative director for Oregon House Speaker Representative Tina Kotek, was arrested late at night on Saturday, September 5 and charged with interfering with a police officer after Portland Police declared a riot. Advertisement “Kristina Narayan was arrested for Interfering with a Police Officer after the event became a riot and the crowd was given multiple orders to disperse, which she did not do,” a Portland police department spokesperson said. Narayan, 29, has worked for Kotek since September, 2016 and has served as the House speaker’s legislative director since May, 2018, according to her LinkedIn profile. Republican state lawmakers in Oregon criticized their colleagues across the aisle for declining to denounce the ongoing nightly violence wracking Portland, and accused Democratic lawmakers of protecting their staffers and supporters who participate in the riots. Advertisement “The Democrat supermajority in Oregon have had instances where their publicly-employed staff have been involved in the violent riots and looting in downtown Portland,” said GOP state Senator Dennis Linthicum, who represents the southeast city of Klamath Falls. “Knowing this, it becomes obvious why Democrats in Oregon and across the nation have not stood up for law enforcement and condemned the lawlessness in the streets because within these Democrat-controlled cities — they would be alienating their own staff members who are participating in the riots,” Linthicum said. Advertisement Republican Oregon Senator Alan Olsen agreed, adding that Democratic lawmakers in the state “despise” the very police protecting them. “Oregon Democrats are the party of lawlessness because instead of denouncing the violence, they largely have remained silent. The top Democrat leaders are protected by the police but despise and have absolute animosity towards them,” said Olsen, who represents Canby, a city just south of Portland. “It’s obvious that Oregon Democrats are protecting their own extremist staffers and supporters over innocent Oregonians who are the collateral damage of over 100 days of violence,” Olsen added. Advertisement Narayan’s arrest came a week after pro-Trump demonstrator Aaron Danielson was fatally shot in the chest during clashes between Black Lives Matter protesters and a caravan of pro-Trump demonstrators who drove through the streets of downtown Portland. Two days later, Portland Police declared a riot after about 200 demonstrators marched to Mayor Ted Wheeler’s residence to demand that he resign as violent demonstrations continue to rock the city. Kotek’s office did not respond to a request for comment. Send a tip to the news team at NR.

Rochester Mayor Fires Police Chief, Calls for a Federal Investigation Into the Death of Daniel Prude

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren announced that she fired Police Chief La’Ron Singletary and called for a federal investigation into the death of Daniel Prude — a Black man who died after a police encounter in March. Warren’s announcement comes after Singletary and other senior police command officials announced their resignations. Singletary planned on leaving on Sept. 29. Warren also announced she would suspend Corporation Counsel Tim Curtin and Communications Director Justin Roj without pay for 30 days after a review of Prude’s death. “This initial look has shown what so many have suspected, that we have a pervasive problem in the Rochester Police Department,” Warren said during a press conference on Monday. She continued, “One that views everything through the eyes of the badge and not the citizens we serve. It shows that Mr. Prude’s death was not taken as seriously as it should have been by those who reviewed the case throughout city government at every level.” “Frankly, the public should have been informed of Mr. Prude’s death and the circumstances that led to his death in March, and after seeing the video, I should have conducted a formal review.” “The culture of policing in Rochester must change,” she added. In March, Rochester police officers encountered Prude running naked in a street. They handcuffed him and placed a bag over his head to prevent him from spitting and held him down for roughly two minutes. He died roughly two weeks later. A medical examiner said Prude died from “complications of asphyxia in the setting of physical restraint.” Rochester has experienced two weeks of protests after a video of the encounter was released by Prude’s family.

Lancaster protests demonstrate BLM wants police to sacrifice themselves to criminals

There is no acceptable resolution to any conflict between law enforcement and a Black man in the eyes of Black Lives Matter except for law enforcement to lose. They made that crystal clear with their unhinged protests in Lancaster, PA, Sunday night. The situation was textbook self-defense by a police officer. Called out by the family of a person of color, Ricardo Munoz, 27, because he was threatening his own mother, a police officer was almost immediately face-to-face with the suspect. The police officer backed up and retreated when Munoz came at him with a large knife. When it was clear Munoz was going to continue to pursue and intended bodily harm, the police officer shot and killed him. If he didn’t do exactly what he did, it is almost certain the police officer would be dead along with members of Munoz’ family. But that fact didn’t stop Black Lives Matter “activists from rioting in the streets of Lancaster, tearing down a door and breaking several windows at the police station. They threw bottles, bricks, and other heavy items at the police station and surrounding buildings before finally being dispersed by tear gas and rubber bullets. Why? Because a law enforcement officer did not want to be murdered. The only thing that could have kept #BLM from rioting in Lancaster last night is if the police officer would have allowed the knife-wielding suspect chasing him to actually just stab him to death. Then, #BLM would have been okay with the outcome. — JD Rucker (@JDRucker) September 14, 2020 In the latest episode of NOQ Report, I covered this story as well as two other BLM stories. Then, we turned to San Francisco’s push for voting by 16-year-olds, Joe Biden calling for gun control following the shooting of two Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo being hopeful that all American troops will be out of Afghanistan by next spring. Biden Calls for Gun Control after Attack on L.A. Sheriff’s Deputies

Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden speaks during a campaign stop in Warren, Mich., September 9, 2020. (Leah Millis/Reuters)Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden called for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines on Sunday, one day after a gunman ambushed and critically wounded two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in their squad car in Compton. “Weapons of war have no place in our communities,” Biden said in a tweet. “We need to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.” Advertisement In an earlier tweet, the former vice president called for the perpetrator of the “cold-blooded” and “unconscionable” shooting to be brought to justice and said anyone who commits an act of violence “should be caught and punished.” The 31-year-old female deputy and 24-year-old male deputy underwent surgery Saturday evening and were listed as in “critical” condition, Fox News reported. The search for the suspect continued on Monday. President Trump suggested swift, harsh punishment for criminals who target law enforcement. Advertisement “Animals that must be hit hard!” Trump said in a tweet. He later added, “If [the deputies] die, fast trial death penalty for the killer. Only way to stop this!” At a roundtable campaign event in Las Vegas on Sunday, Trump expressed support for tougher criminal sentencing guidelines and faster courts and criticized his opponent for being weak on crime, according to Fox News. “He’s not strong for law and order and everybody knows that,” Trump said. “When you see a scene like happened just last night in California with the two police people – a woman, a man – shot at stone cold short range.” Send a tip to the news team at NR.

#BlueLivesMatter hashtag following LA ambush gets desecrated by radical leftists

Following the attempted murder of two Los Angeles County deputies during an ambush-style attack yesterday, #BlueLivesMatter started trending. This perturbed Black Lives Matter “activists” nearly as much as the presence of law enforcement in general. As The Daily Wire reported on the horrific shooting of two police officers ambushed in Los Angeles yesterday. Two deputies with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department were shot Saturday as they sat in their patrol vehicle near a metro station in Compton, California, the department said Saturday evening. The deputies, one male and one female, were both shot “multiple times” and are currently in critical condition and undergoing surgery, according to the department. “Moments ago, 2 of our Sheriff Deputies were shot in Compton and were transported to a local hospital. They are both still fighting for their lives, so please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. We will update this thread with information as it becomes available,” said the department Saturday evening. Half an hour later, the department provided an update: “Update: One male deputy and one female deputy were ambushed as they sat in their patrol vehicle. Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition. They are both currently undergoing surgery. The suspect is still at large.” That’s bad enough, but the fact that Black Lives Matter “activists” tried to storm the hospital where the officers were being treated is even more hideous. But to top it all off, various leftists took to Twitter to take over the #BlueLivesMatter hashtag with the worst vitriol imaginable. #BlueLivesMatter The fact that liberals are taking this hashtag and making fun of it proves they don't really care about lives at all. Unlike the criminals they glorify, these police officers were actually innocent. Liberals are disgusting pieces of shit. — McKayla J (@McKaylaRoseJ) September 13, 2020 The radicals in Black Lives Matter, Antifa, mainstream media, and the Democratic Party are so desperate to harm law enforcement, they’ll say the most hideous things in public.
