Please respect our republishing guidelines - Click Here Despite violence and protests, despite warnings from the government and vetoes from the mayor, the Seattle City Council went ahead with its plans to defund the police. Crime in the Emerald City has skyrocketed since the death of George Floyd in May. Seattle even endured a siege of several city blocks by Black Lives Matter and Antifa. Still, the lawmakers deemed it necessary to further hamper the ability of law enforcement to protect the people. Mayor Jenny Durkan, a Democrat, vetoed three anti-cop bills, but the council overturned two of them unanimously and the third with a 7-2 majority. The bills reduce the wages of higher-ranking police officials and remove about 100 people from the police department. The mayor claimed that cutting officers from the force goes against the city’s plans to become more diverse: “If Council wanted to actually seek salary savings for this year or fully realize layoffs, it would require us to cut sworn officers, which would mean losing our newest and most diverse hires that we have worked so hard to bring on board (37% are diverse), particularly when we had been consistently advised by legal counsel and the City’s Labor Relations Director that cutting these officers could not be avoided by ‘out of order’ layoffs by November, as the legislation assumes.” Seattle is also swarming with homeless people. The council cut the Navigation Team as well, which is responsible for dealing with the homelessness problem. As Durkan explained, this will severely restrict “the City’s ability to move people out of homelessness and deal with encampments for the rest of this year.” Is it a coincidence that this vote comes on the heels of the Trump administration’s announcement that Seattle, Portland, and New York City have been declared “anarchist jurisdictions”? Such a move could mean withholding federal funding to these cities, which has Seattle lawmakers practically foaming at the mouth. Andre Taylor On top of defunding the police, the council has also hired a convicted pimp to act as the city’s “street czar” and come up with “alternatives to policing” – and they’re paying him $150,000 a year! Andre Taylor, who once went by the name “Gorgeous Dre,” was convicted of seven prostitution-related counts and sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison back in 2000, of which he served a little over one. In 2016, his brother, Che Taylor, was killed by Seattle police, and the activist said he was going to the city to seek justice. “I’m here to go to war,” he said at the time. “I will be unrelenting to get justice for my little brother.” Now, in his new role for the city, the activist told KOMO News: “Me, as a Black man has the right to be paid for my genius or for whatever my organization can provide. Black people as a whole have not been in a place to be compensated for their genius or their work for a very, very long time.” It certainly seems trendy for Democrat-led cities to rid the population of trained and professional law enforcement officers. But must we now replace them with convicted criminals while the streets run wild with violence, looting, and rioting? ~ Read more from Kelli Ballard.

Rowling Spreading Transphobia J.K. Rowling’s newest book, Troubled Blood, is garnering scathing reviews for promoting transphobia. The fifth installment in the Cormoran Strike series, written under the pen name Robert Galbraith, centers on the cold case of a woman who disappeared in 1974 and is suspected of being one of the victims of a transvestite serial killer, Dennis Creed. “One wonders what critics of Rowling’s stance on trans issues will make of a book whose moral seems to be: never trust a man in a dress,” criticized The Telegraph in a review. The negative write-up started a new hashtag wave of #RIPJKRowling. Vanity Fair said Rowling is “expressing her transphobic opinions” on social media and her website and “now appears to be bringing her TERF (trans-exclusionary radical feminist) logic to a bookshelf near you … ” The publication also pointed out that this isn’t the first time the writer has delved into transphobia. The Silkworm, it said, has a female character, Pippa, stalking detective Strike and then trying to stab him. Strike thwarts that attempt, “revealing her identity as a trans woman, with Rowling adding in a description of her Adam’s apple and hands.” That’s a bit of a petty complaint considering a writer’s job is to paint a picture with words, and describing the way a character looks, whether bald or with an Adam’s apple, hardly screams transphobia. As for the rest of the book, that will be up to Rowling’s fans to decide. Cuties or Child Exploitation? Conservatives Incite Panic, According to Writer By now you must have heard about the Netflix-streamed movie Cuties in which an 11-year-old Muslim girl rebels against the constraints of her conservative family and joins a girl dance group. Not just any kind of dance, though. No, these pre-teen adolescents are twerking, gyrating, and displaying inappropriate behavior (unless you’re a stripper of legal age), all while the cameras zoom in on their bottoms and suggestive moves. The film has received a lot of backlash, and rightly so, but somehow a Rolling Stone writer wrote a piece blaming conservatives for causing hysteria and being too sensitive. “How ‘Cuties’ Is Fueling the Far Right’s Obsession With Pedophilia,” written by EJ Dickson, has the accusatory subtitle: “The fight against sex trafficking has become politicized, and the misplaced outrage could be protecting actual child predators.” The writer criticizes Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) for calling for an investigation of Netflix for the obscene film and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) for her tweet that the film “will certainly whet the appetite of pedophiles and help fuel the child sex-trafficking trade.” Dickson turned the responses to the movie into an us-or-them scenario, saying: “In the hands of the film’s detractors, the discourse surrounding Cuties morphed from that of a complex film addressing faith, race, and sexuality, to a war between two opposing groups, one with obvious moral leverage over the other: those who support child sexual exploitation, and those who do not.” “Sexuality” should not be associated with 11-year-old girls, and normalizing stripper moves sends a dangerous message, exploits children, and exposes them to sexual predators. Those on the left who embrace Dickson’s views seem to be blinded by the hate-the-conservatives campaign and can’t see what this kind of movie promotes. “Accusing leftists of pedophilia has become the latest rhetorical cudgel among those on the far right,” Dickson wrote. You don’t have to be far right, or even a conservative, to see what’s wrong with Cuties. Instead of understanding the dangers of this film, the left seems to condemn its critics as small-minded Puritans. Director Maïmouna Doucouré defended the movie, saying it was “feminist” and was meant to bring awareness about sexualization of children – in a film that visually sexualizes them, of course. “It’s bold, it’s feminist, but it’s so important and necessary to create debate and try to find solutions, for me as an artist, for politicians and parents. It’s a real issue,” she said. Exploiting children, in other words, to raise awareness of exploiting children. The Rolling Stone writer wasn’t finished, making the gigantic leap of comparing conservatives’ disgust over Cuties with “satanic panic” — a moral hysteria about alleged widespread satanic ritual abuse, particularly in the 1980s. First, Dickson called out Newsweek for writing about the movie with a statement from the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, which Dickson claimed was done “without noting the organization’s roots as a religious right-wing group.” She went on to say that “one of the major differences between the Satanic panic and the current age of hysteria is that pedophilia allegations are being utilized in a hyper-specific and politicized way” and that “pedophilia allegations are a fairly common tactic used to discredit political enemies of the Putin regime in Russia.” Leave it to the left to insert a Russian collusion conspiracy into a child exploitation outcry. Cheers and Jeers Sometimes, HollyWeird players make headlines for silly or bizarre happenings, so here is a collection of newsworthy doings — honorable and dishonorable — by the tenants of Tinsel Town. Kevin Spacey Sued for Sexual Assault Kevin Spacey Two people have filed a lawsuit against actor Kevin Spacey, alleging sexual misconduct and assault and battery. One of the purported victims is anonymous and the other is Anthony Rapp, who played Lieutenant Commander Paul Stamets in Star Trek: Discovery. Rapp said he was 14 when he experienced several instances of inappropriate behavior from the senior actor, such as Spacey reportedly climbing on top of him and trying to perform a sex act in 1986. Rapp also claimed the two had oral sex and intercourse. “My stomach churns,” Rapp said. “I still to this day can’t wrap my head around so many aspects of it. It’s just deeply confusing to me.” Spacey said he has no memory of the incidents. “If I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior,” he said. Please respect our republishing guidelines - Click Here It’s easy to tell when it’s an election year: If the political mudslinging doesn’t provide a clue, then the agenda reversals should do the trick. And this, folks, is definitely a presidential election year like none other. True to form, the Democrats have flip-flopped on one of their main talking points: doing away with President Donald Trump’s tax initiatives. Senate Democrats had implied they were going to reverse Trump’s taxes, and quickly, but now they will delay if Joe Biden is elected and the party controls the House and Senate. Their focus has switched to raising wages and climate control, with stimulus bills that could include tax incentives for green technology. They still haven’t taken their eyes off a wealth tax but are prudently tabling that until a later date. Apparently, the president’s tax plans aren’t as evil as the Dems proclaimed. The real reason behind the about-face has more to do with the election and seeking voter approval than anything else. Talk of raising taxes is never a good strategy when running for office, and especially not during a pandemic that has crippled the nation’s economy (which lately is starting to bounce back) and when so many Americans have been left without jobs and have lost businesses. The Dems are also divided on just how to tax the wealthy and the corporations. “I think we ought to make the decision when we have a better sense of where the economy is going,” said Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and who wins the election, of course. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) put the focus on the virus, saying: “We have so much on our plate. We’ve got to deal with COVID and testing. We need to put in place a whole thing to get our arms around the virus and a recovery act. I’m sure a tax piece will be in there somewhere, but No. 1 priority will be COVID.” However, some diehard Dems still want to push higher taxes on the rich. Charles Chamberlain, the executive director of Democracy for America, said it would be a “terrible idea” to wait to tax millionaires: “Over the course of the pandemic, we’ve seen billionaires make $600 billion since March while the minimum wage hasn’t been raised in over 10 years. I think the billionaires and millionaires, they have benefited from the [Trump] tax cuts and many of them have benefited from the pandemic itself.” Biden’s tax plans would raise the tax rate from 37% to 39.6% for individuals. For corporations, he proposes a tax rate change from 21% to 28%. If elected, the former vice president promised to make the corporate tax changes “on day one.” Whether that is a good move during campaign time, we will just have to wait and see. Still, it’s politics over people as usual, and even more so during a presidential election when promises are made (and rarely kept), opponents are verbally slashed to ribbons, and ideals and platforms are like a current, changing with every whisper of a breeze. ~ Read more from Kelli Ballard.
Please respect our republishing guidelines - Click Here Should students return to school or be kept at home with online learning? Has the Coronavirus pandemic run its course enough to allow children to return to student-teacher in-person learning? That has been the question dominating educational systems throughout the nation. While some schools have returned to a semblance of normality, others have remained locked down, with concerns about spreading the virus preventing their reopening. Or is that the real story? In Los Angeles, CA, the public health chief may be suggesting another agenda – a political one – as she warns the county’s schools will likely not resume until after the presidential election. Dr. Barbara Ferrer, in a conference call with educators, twice mentioned keeping schools closed until after the election. “We don’t realistically anticipate that we would be moving to either tier 2 or to reopening K-12 schools at least until after the election, in early November,” she said, drawing criticism for the political date. Leaked audio obtained by the L.A. radio station KFI AM 60 reveals the doctor’s comments: “When we just look at the timing of everything, it seems to us a more realistic approach to this would be to think that we’re going to be where we are now until we are done with the election.” Nothing to See Here? The county’s Department of Public Health tried to play down the furor later by saying Ferrer was only referring to the timeframe for “expanded school reopenings,” but that didn’t sway much of the public. One tweeter, known as JP, said: “It’s been about the election the entire time. Anybody who’s been paying attention could see this would be stretched into November solely for that purpose.” Some insist the statement was taken out of context – that Ferrer merely used election day as a benchmark. It is worth noting, though, that everything else in L.A. County is on track to reevaluate reopening and expanding within the next couple of weeks, except for the school system. Ferrer may have meant the beginning of November, but why not say that instead of citing a specific event? After playing Ferrer’s recorded comments, the hosts of KFI News speculated that the timing was a way to thwart President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign: If the students were to return to school now, then it would “give good will to Trump, and more votes.” A commenter identified as Lisa tweeted out this response: “Dr Ferrer told us ‘the science is guiding our decisions’ what does science have to do with the election? We are being held hostage by a Politically motivated shut down. WAKE UP LOS ANGELES.” The L.A. school system has been in the spotlight in recent months for what appears to be politically charged decisions. As Liberty Nation reported, in July, the United Teachers Los Angeles Union (UTLAU) had a list of demands before allowing children to return to class: “Social distancing practices aside, the union folks also want to defund the police, close charter schools, and promote self-serving legislation unrelated to the Coronavirus.” The UTLAU also insisted on funding for illegal immigrants, a wealth tax, and even Medicare for All. As parents struggle to understand the risks (or lack of) to their children should schools reopen, the media continues to bombard the American public with daily updates of infection, hospitalizations, and deaths supposedly due to COVID. Liberty Nation’s Pennel Bird sums up the situation: “We obediently flattened the curve way back in April, and that was just a signal to the media to quickly move the goalposts.” Perhaps the goalposts all along were set for November 4. ~ Read more from Kelli Ballard.

Man Sexually Assaults Toddler, Takes Pictures Ivan Velez Harnett County, NC A 23-year-old illegal immigrant was arrested after authorities discovered pictures of him sexually assaulting a one-year-old baby. The Department of Homeland Security alerted the Harnett County’s Sherrif’s Office that the pornographic images were being electronically distributed from Cameron, North Carolina. After conducting an investigation, they were able to trace the images back to Ivan Velez. Deputies have indicated that the victim is known to Velez but have not released the nature of the connection. The suspect has been charged with three counts of statutory rape and three counts of sexual exploitation of a one-year-old. He is currently being held on a $3 million bond at the Harnett County Detention Center. Couple Tortured 9-Year-Old Son to Death Meridian, ID When paramedics responded to a call at a home in Meridian, ID, they found 9-year-old Emrik Osuna unresponsive. They immediately started performing CPR and transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Emergency room doctors noticed apparent signs of long-term abuse and notified authorities who arrested Emirk’s father, Erik Emmanuel Osuna, 29, and stepmother Monique Osuna, 27. Erik Emmanuel Osuna During the couple’s arraignment, they were accused of using various items to punish the child, including a belt, dog leash, wooden spoon, and frying pan. The stepmother said she used the dog leash “because it was heavier than the belt.” The boy had bruises covering his body, especially on his legs, back, buttocks, and groin. The child was forced to do physical punishments as well, such as jumping jacks and wall sits. Monique said she put her stepson in a closet to sleep at night and frequently withheld food from him. Erick claimed his son had recently been getting only rice and water for nourishment. Both parents were charged with felony injury to a child and are being held at the Ada County Jail; Monique on a $2 million bail and Eric on an ICE detainer. North Carolinians for Immigration Reform and Enforcement (NCFIRE) August 2020 Each month, the North Carolina organization NCFIRE posts a list of sexual crimes committed against children by illegal immigrants. The numbers are staggering – especially considering that they’re just for one state. Take a look at the last four months’ statistics. May 2020 23 illegal immigrants were arrested. 70 charges of child rape and sexual abuse. June 2020 22 illegal immigrants were arrested. 238 charges of child rape and sexual abuse. July 2020 17 illegal immigrants were arrested. 63 charges of child rape and sexual abuse. August 2020 22 illegal immigrants were arrested. 107 charges of child rape and sexual abuse. This barely represents a drop in the bucket of just how many children are being sexually abused nationwide by people who are in the United States illegally. Sanctuary cities and states are only making it easier for predators to remain in the country as they prey on children.
