Most Populous State Looks To Keep Last Nuclear Plant Alive To Stave Off Blackouts

Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California proposed on Friday to delay shutting down the state’s remaining nuclear power plant for up to another decade to avoid exacerbating the state’s energy crisis, according to a draft of the bill.Newsom presented legislation that would keep the plant open for five to ten years beyond its planned closure date in 2025 and give its operator, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), a loan of up to $1.4 billion to do so, according to the draft. The extension delay is needed because extreme heat could push power demand beyond available supplies of electricity, resulting in blackouts as supply chain issues are slowing clean energy projects aimed at replacing the plant’s energy output, Newsom’s aides told E&E News. (RELATED: Activist Investment Firm Pushes California Oil And Gas Producer To Curb Oil And Gas Production)Newsom’s plan comes amid the state’s efforts to prevent blackouts and energy shortages during its ongoing energy transition that looks to produce 100% of its energy from ‘clean’ sources by 2045 through the use of renewables and the phase-out of fossil fuels, according to the California Energy Commission. California does not currently have enough lithium-ion battery storage to completely supply its grid with wind and solar power, according to the LA Times. The Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, located near San Luis Obispo, produces nearly a tenth of the state’s electricity and was scheduled to be shut down following a 2016 agreement reached by PG&E, environmental groups and local authorities, according to Politico.  Aerial view of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant which sits on the edge of the Pacific Ocean at Avila Beach in San Luis Obispo County, California on March 17, 2011. (MARK RALSTON/AFP via Getty Images) However, Newsom’s plan to ameliorate energy concerns will require the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to renew the operating license, and state officials are also saying that the plant would also require costly safety upgrades, according to E&E News. The state Legislature also has very little time to consider the bill and it would have to be approved by both chambers by Aug. 31, the session’s final day. Should Diablo Canyon close in 2025, the state will need to take numerous steps to ensure grid reliability, including adding battery storage at more than three times the current level through 2026, according to a June Brattle Group report. California would also need to add utility-scale solar at roughly three times current rates, as well as ensure that 1 gigaton of pumped hydro storage and 1 gigaton of new geothermal energy arrive by 2026, according to the report. Elevating demand from increasing the number of electric vehicles in California will also increase electricity consumption, according to E&E News. Yikes: English Government Prepares Citizens For Freezing Blackouts This Winter

The official line is this will not happen, but if it does, you may have no gas or electricity for a bit, here and there, but not often or for long. That’s very reassuring coming from a Western “Democracy.” Just imagine if we’d heard these things from some second or third-world concern facing the carbon reductionists looking to rustle their industrial Jimmies. Making electricity unaffordable or unobtainable in such a case would be racist.

Planners Are Planning for Blackouts This Winter (for you, not them).

The United Kingdom was an early adopter of codependent green energy schemes, and this winter could be the first full test of what decline feels like in the Woke energy new world order. “UK Plans for Blackouts in January in Emergency Energy Plan.”Planners are planning to have blackouts in the winter.

Under the government’s latest “reasonable worst-case scenario,” Britain could face an electricity capacity shortfall totaling about a sixth of peak demand, even after emergency coal plants have been fired up, according to people familiar with the government’s planning. Under that outlook, below-average temperatures and reduced electricity imports from Norway and France could expose four days in January when the UK may need to trigger emergency measures to conserve gas, they said.

Making electricity unaffordable or unobtainable in such a case would be racist. How dare you deny them the comforts they insist are ruining the planet? All while doing their best to make energy so damn expensive that even where they have it people are like WTF!
Other contradictions abound.
The Muppet Greta Chorus rails on the West about its carbon sins while the majority of CO2, pollution, and ocean plastic comes from China, South East Asia, India, and Africa. But no one’s over there telling them to do right by mother earth.
Germany is saying it needs to burn coal or else. Europe, in general, is poised for an unpleasant experience with single-sourced non-green energy as they discover the green can’t replace fossil when it gets cold.
We’ve got Ambassador Hassan voting to kill off Republican energy tax cuts so she can later pretend they are her idea later when they are guaranteed to fail (hey, I tried, she’ll say). No. You killed it. Own it.
And now the UK says we’ve got it sorted (they don’t rely on Russia for gas, by the way), but just in case, things might get dodgy on the odd day, so be prepared for dark and cold.
And it looks like progressives ruined modernity, but that’ snot entirely correct. They are actually hoarding for themselves. The Queen won’t be looking for a candle to read by, she’ll be good, as will the western elites.
They’re all Ivan Tretiak in the 1997 movie The Saint. While you’re freezing, they’re sitting on billions of gallons of heating oil shouting, save the planet…(whispered) for me!

We now see a decrease of 60% of natural gas in Germany, but many other options to keep power on. However, as the Great Reset is upon us, there is a lot of fear mongering regarding natural gas, blackouts and the climate as governments attempt to move us into a new, more tyrannical system under the guise of saving us from the old one which was purposely unsustainable. The German, French, Austrian and Czech governments absolutely have the ability to sustain power, but they’ve purposely attacked their own grid so they have an excuse to move into the new system, all while blaming Russia. All of this falls into the realm of the Great Reset with carbon credits and sporadic blackouts which of course will all be based in false flags. There are many forms of backup energies like nuclear and coal, but of course there are also alternative monies and inflation still rages. That’s not the issue. They WANT chaos as with chaos comes order. Most people are too dumb to recognize this obvious plot to bring us into a new technocratic “internet of things” system controlled through the banking system by social credit, carbon credits and eugenics. In this video, we talk about the latest on the ground in Germany and what we can expect in the coming months.Stay tuned for more from WAM!PURCHASE PART 1 of TipToe To Tyranny HERE:https://vimeo.com/ondemand/tiptoetotyranny/ GET YOUR APRICOT SEEDS at the life-saving Richardson Nutritional Center HERE:https://rncstore.com/r?id=bg8qc1 OUR PODBEAN CHANNEL:https://worldaltmedia.podbean.com/ Or SPOTIFY:https://open.spotify.com/show/5JWtlXypfL8iR8gGMg9MME FIND US on Rokfin HERE:https://rokfin.com/worldalternativemedia FIND US on SOVREN HERE:https://sovren.media/u/wam/ FIND US on Gettr HERE:https://www.gettr.com/user/worldaltmedia See our EPICFUNDME HERE:https://epicfundme.com/251-world-alternative-media JOIN OUR NEWSLETTER HERE:https://www.iambanned.com/ JOIN our Telegram Group HERE:https://t.me/worldalternativemedia JOIN US On BitChute:https://www.bitchute.com/channel/gzFCj8AuSWgp/ JOIN US On Flote:https://flote.app/JoshSigurdson JOIN US On Odysee (formerly LBRY) HERE:https://odysee.com/@WAM:0 BUY WAM NFTs HERE:https://rarible.com/worldalternativemedia JOIN US on Rumble Here:https://rumble.com/c/c-312314 FIND WAM MERCHANDISE HERE:https://teespring.com/stores/world-alternative-media FIND OUR CoinTree page here:https://cointr.ee/joshsigurdson JOIN US on SubscribeStar here:https://www.subscribestar.com/world-alternative-media We will soon be doing subscriber only content!Follow us on Twitter here:https://twitter.com/WorldAltMedia DONATE PAYPAL HERE:[email protected]Help keep independent media alive!Pledge here! UK gov’t plans for blackouts, gas cuts, doubling of energy costs, come January

© bangkokpost.comFILE PHOTO: Caracas, Venezuela during blackoutThe UK is planning for several days over the winter when cold weather may combine with gas shortages, leading to organized blackouts for industry and even households.
The government Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
While the UK doesn’t envisage such shortfalls under its base case, the analysis lays bare the difficult winter potentially in store for Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak when they succeed Boris Johnson as prime minister next month. If they materialize, the power cuts would come even as Britons face up to average annual energy bills possibly rising above £4,200 ($5,086) in January from just under £2,000 currently, stoking already soaring inflation.
If the winter is particularly cold, Britain may have to rely increasingly on pipeline shipments of gas from mainland Europe — where supplies are already thin as Moscow curbs flows. That presents a dilemma for the UK, which has very little domestic storage capacity. The nation has been shipping record amounts of gas to the continent and will want the favor returned when temperatures plunge.

Norway
The UK’s main fall-back option was to restore Britain’s biggest natural gas storage site, Rough. Owner Centrica Plc says its initial return to service this winter would equate to 10 LNG cargoes, not really enough to make a significant difference. The nation will also face stiff international competition for cargoes of liquefied natural gas.
The first stage of the UK’s emergency plan involves the network operator directing flows of gas on the system, temporarily overriding commercial agreements, the person said, asking not to be identified because the information is private. The second stage involves halting supplies to gas-fired power stations, triggering planned power cuts for industry and domestic users.
Life could get more difficult for Britain if supply of electricity is curtailed along huge cables connecting to France, Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands. Norway said on Monday it’s looking at ways to limit power exports in winter to prevent domestic shortages.
The UK has higher power prices than Norway and relies on imports, so any limitations would raise costs further and may force National Grid to utilize its strategic reserve of coal, Aurora Energy Research said.
Truss, Sunak Pledges
There is also a looming threat from the unavailability of Electricite de France SA’s nuclear fleet, National Grid said. Usually a power exporter, less than half of France’s reactors are running now with maintenance and repairs taking longer than expected.
National Grid has warned of sky-rocketing prices this winter putting even more strain on consumer bills. There’s mounting pressure on the government to do more beyond the £400 discount on household tariffs already announced earlier this year by Sunak when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer. Johnson’s spokesman said this week that any further help for ordinary Britons would be for his successor to decide.
Truss, the front-runner in the leadership contest, has promised immediate tax cuts and the removal of the green levy from energy bills, saving households £153 a year. Sunak has said he’d build on the existing government package once the level of a new price cap on energy bills is known.
That’s due to be announced by the regulator, Ofgem, at the end of August, and effect in October. Thereafter, the regulator will adjust the cap quarterly rather than half-yearly, meaning bills are likely to rise again in January.
