Wound care and guidelines when to use Steri Strips for closure or to Suture

Hypothetical question: One thing I’ve been wondering is – Will I be able to actually sew myself back up if something happens that requires that? I’ve got the suture kits, steri strips, everything to clean the wounds or whatever, but, can I pull off stitching myself up? – ‘Nailbanger’   That question from a reader here on MSB inspired another to answer with some great insight and guidelines. I chose to post it here separately in case others missed it.   The reply from one of

“The structure of the Second Amendment within the Bill of Rights proves that the right to bear arms is an individual right, rather than a collective one

The collective rights’ idea that the Second Amendment can only be viewed in terms of state or federal power “ignores the implication that might be drawn from the Second, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments: the citizenry itself can be viewed as an important third component of republican governance as far as it stands ready to defend republican liberty against the depredations of the other two structures, however futile that might appear as a practical matter.” – Sanford Levinson, The Embarrassing Second Amendment, 99 YALE L.J. 637, 651 (1989).

Eye Bleeding Outbreak

Uganda’s Health Ministry finally confirmed that they may be facing a large scale outbreak of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever. They also fear a large scale pandemic of this disease. Emergency response teams are being deployed to the districts of Nakaseke and Luweero. While only the nine year-old girl has succumbed to the disease in Uganda, three people in neighboring South Sudan have also died of the disease. The Nickel Iron battery from ‘Iron Edison’ is an updated version of Thomas Edison’s battery design that he considered to be nearly perfect

For off grid energy storage and renewable energy systems, this battery will likely be the last one you’ll ever buy. Why? Because it’s nearly indestructible! Edison’s battery recipe used iron oxide and nickel hydrate, without the corrosive acid-based electrolyte used in today’s lead acid batteries. The result was the long life Nickel-Iron-Alkaline cell. The Nickel Iron battery features the longest life span of any battery ever invented. You might want to read that again…   Advantages of

Those were the things that I thought of too, when I first began looking into how I could be more prepared for an emergency or disaster I might face back when I was fresh out of college.

When I Moved To A Big City

Back when I was a naive graduate who moved to a big city with student debt on my back, one room in a small shared apartment to call home, and extremely limited resources, a lot of the information I was finding did not apply to me or my living situation. I’m not starting a homestead or prepping a house for a family. I was one guy in his … Continue reading →

On January 14th, 1784, the Continental Congress ratified the Second Treaty of Paris, ending the War for Independence

In the document, which was known as the Second Treaty of Paris because the Treaty of Paris was also the name of the agreement that had ended the Seven Years’ War in 1763, Britain officially agreed to recognize the independence of its 13 former colonies as the new United States of America.
